Apologies, but I had to post this.

I have spent numerous hours and years arguing with Luke about this, and he always came up with some confusing answer which was very hard for me to understand. He even claimed at various points that it was the end of USD as the GRC and the end of US Treasuries as the number 1 collateral and that China was playing 3D chess while the U.S. was wide asleep. These debates go back up to 2017! The discussion got to the point where @LukeGromen blocked me on X.

I have zero problem with people disagreeing, and I believe this is the value of any platform like X. This is how well-thought-out conclusions are created.

However, what Luke describes here is effectively Brent Johnson's (@SantiagoAuFund) USD Milkshake Theory, with whom he has been arguing against it for years.

I really hope Luke gives Brent credit on this one. @ttmygh

Everyone assumes the Gulf states have leverage over the US. The oil, the treasuries, the money. It runs the other way.

Take the UAE. It does not hold leverage over the dollar. It is entangled in the dollar.

Because it is not really the dollar. It is the eurodollar system, and the UAE has decided to build itself all the way into it.

They have reoriented their entire foreign policy to become a staunch US ally, and their ambition is to become the next city of London, the financial center of the whole system.

That is the leverage that actually matters. Not the oil under the ground, but the position inside the machine that moves the money.
