Am I really prepared to kickstart my software career? Do I have what it takes to build apps like Facebook, Uber, or Google Maps? 🤔
As a Software Engineer, shouldn’t we know how these apps work behind the scenes? That’s what being an engineer means, right? 💻✨
Ask a mechanical engineer the difference between a Porsche and a BMW. You'd expect them to discuss engine design, horsepower, aerodynamics—not just say one is shiny and the other is classy. 🏎️ vs 🚘
There's a BIG difference between knowing how to use X and knowing how to build your own X. 🏗️
Similarly, when someone asks a software engineer how X or Uber or Google Maps works, we should discuss the technical challenges and the concepts/tools/technologies used to build them. 🌐🗺️
Yet, many CS graduates admit they have theoretical knowledge but lack practical application skills. They've studied Data Structures, Algorithms, Databases, Networking, Operating Systems, Compiler Design, and more. 📚🤓
With over 35-40 subjects in an undergraduate curriculum, it's natural to wonder: Do these subjects have any relevance in the industry? Why are we being asked to know technologies like #Python, #React, #MongoDB or #AWS which our curriculum never taught us? 🤷♂️
This is the "gap"—the disconnect between what's taught in engineering programs and what's expected in the industry. 🕳️
It's ironic that while there are so many vacant jobs, people still struggle to get hired. 😔
Bootcamps/Crash Courses on the other hand often focus heavily on technologies with very little emphasis on underlying concepts. ⚙️🔧
So, what's the solution? Let's discuss it below. 🧠💡
💡 Did you know JavaScript arrays aren’t like traditional "arrays" in other languages? They’re actually objects in disguise! 🚀 Let's explore some quirky behaviors that come with this...
