A year ago today, the previous UK government hiked duty on #ScotchWhisky and other spirits by 10.1%, and ploughed on with a 'reformed' system which taxes spirits up to x4 more than other alcohol per unit of alcohol

Quite the shock and such a sad loss. Martin was a font of knowledge and an international trade guru. He used to jokingly call me Sinead when we worked together. He'll be sorely missed and my heart goes out to his family 💔

We are sad to announce that the SWA Deputy Director for Trade, Martin Bell, passed away on 2nd Feb. The thoughts of the SWA, and the whole Scotch Whisky industry, are with Martin’s family. He’ll be sorely missed by all who knew him.
