This is an up-close and personal look at the lives lived and lost fighting the Germans on the Western Front. Inspired by the real-life diaries of soldiers who left no man behind and fought to the death in some of Australia’s greatest victories of the war.

Onslaught (2026)★½

This movie was over the top in every possible way. The characters were ridiculous, the story was ridiculous, and somehow I watched the whole thing. There was one character I liked—the little girl who played the daughter—but that wasn’t enough to save it.

There shouldn’t be anyone out there who enjoys this movie, but there’s no accounting for taste. I expect this to be a one-and-done movie. There’s no reason to waste any more movie space on this nightmare.

Avoid at all costs.

Any Means Necessary (2026)★★★★

This movie is a little “Green Book” and a little “Lethal Weapon” without the comedy. Based on a true story that nobody will ever confirm or deny. A Black FBI agent (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is asked to speak to other Black citizens in a Mississippi town after a local civil rights leader is murdered and his house is burned down. He is then asked to work with Greg Scarpa (Mark Wahlberg), a Mob hitman from New York, to solve the murders. When the law alone isn’t enough, justice must be found by any means necessary.

Tony (2026)★★★★

Tony starts slow with a long setup to his life. I was thinking this was another iPhone movie, then it got interesting. His time in the kitchen is where the film really starts, and from there the anxiety just grows.

More than once my heart dropped into my stomach, a sensation I don’t remember having during another movie. The second half took this from a slow 3 to a high 4. It made me cry and touched me emotionally.

With all the music biopics over the last few years, it’s amazing how well they portrayed Anthony Bourdain. This is a movie I will see again and show other people.
