I think that activities that promote justification, like number talks, are the most important way to promote conceptual thinking. When students are able to justify why they did a strategy and how it works to solve the problem, they have that conceptual understanding. #mashcuw

I think that conceptual understanding definitely helps reduce math anxiety. When students have an understanding of how math actually works instead of memorizing for speed they feel more confident. Making a safe space to brainstorm plays a part in this. #mashcuw
A2. I think if we had more time there it would have been nice to do more number talks. These really got students thinking about the reasoning behind procedures/strategies and how/why they worked #MashCUW
@missvosters I agree Ellie. Great point. I was always "good at math" and picked up procedures easily but I wasn't always able to be flexible to new types of problems. #MashCUW

A5- I think this goes along with keeping kids moving in the classroom. Involving movement, music, art, student interests, etc. will help students remain engaged as well as increase meaningful connections made in the students' brains #cuwntobf19
