As Ryan & Louise holiday in Morocco, is a woman somewhere in the world being implanted with their embryo/s, shipped abroad last month?
Where will she be? Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus, Mexico or Nigeria?
And how much will she be paid to be a baby “hotel”?
Jens Spahn, outspoken critic of #surrogacy, just made a birth announcement:
•Heads the conservative CDU/CSU parliamentary group in Germany.
•As Health Minister, blocked legalizing even altruistic surrogacy.
•2015: called renting a womb hard to stomach, even as a gay man wanting kids.
•His party’s line: surrogacy banned, expansion resisted, framed as exploitation.
•This week: confirms his own son was born via US surrogate.
In my work to defend children, I have found that the most powerful opposing force isn’t ideology, it’s adult self-interest.
Principle holds… until it interferes with something an adult wants. Then there’s no end to the self-justification and rationalization.
"It should be illegal for everyone else. But it’s good when I do it."
"I have lost a treasure, such a Sister, such a friend as never can have been surpassed. - She was the sun of my life, the gilder of every pleasure, the soother of every sorrow, I had not a thought concealed from her, & it is as if I had lost a part of myself."

Graffiti spotted in Florence, Italy this week.
From @nejafeja
"There are children with penises, children with vulvas, and transphobes without teeth."
and "Get transphobia out of schools"
(Google's translation - I don't speak Italian.)
