@StefanFSchubert They shouldn't. The economy should be reorientated to have more craft trades and smallholders. Employees will retire around 65 but people will generally work a craft of some sort until they die and many people will never be employees.
@Xitadin_666@viverdespenteia If I rape a woman during her sleep, and she does not get pregnant and will never be aware that I have raped her, is the act nullified on the basis that she wouldn't even know about it?
@BiizonaPirigosa@manutchii@viverdespenteia I mean this fully when I say it: you deserve to be put under colonial rule until you learn basic human empathy and the dignity of life.
@manutchii@viverdespenteia This is why I am anti EU. I do not want to share a union with these savages. I have had several experiences on the continent and with continentals that have led me to concluded that the British Ilses are simply superior and that we must insulate ourselves from our neighbours.
@viverdespenteia When I visited Portugal to see my great grandfather I was pestered by a child as thin as a rake, who was being made to sell figs. I knew at that moment that Anglos are superior to continentals. Thank you for confirming my suspicion that we gave basic human empathy and you do not.
@valley_robot@MMF99974@willycarrier@EliasofNE The body is not a flesh puppet. It is you. There is no cosmic waiting chamber prior to life from which your soul is decanted into a body from. It is not "just a shell."
@junker_jo Case in point: I was buying some thread one time and the boomer guy manning the till double checked that I was aware it was cotton (boomers seem to prefer polyester thread).
@junker_jo Speaking as a man in this space I get what you mean but there is a parallel tension between boomer women who want to use simplified methods + jazzy polyester prints and zoomer men/women who want Harris Tweed and to be an early 20th century tailor/dressmaker as a hobby.
@nise_yoshimi Was genuinely surprised to end up using Moby Dick as a primary source at uni as a good part of it actually reads like a trade publication about whaling.
@willycarrier@EliasofNE /2 the sake of utilitarian calculous (cremation as more efficient or whatever) takes away from this.
Attend a service at a not trad but not horrifically woke Episcopal/Anglican church (ideally a baptism or carol service) and you will see what I mean.
@willycarrier@EliasofNE Certain rituals (e.g. baptism, marriage, university graduation, burial, etc.) dignify people and show they are part of the community and that we care about them. They allow us to live a "collective life" so to speak that nourishes the individual. Getting rid of this for /1
@coaiecrete@EliasofNE If it is done out of respect and the remains preserved and venerated (as is the case in some Japanese shrines for example) then I get it but in Britain and Ireland cremation is a stripping away of a way we dignify the departed in favour of utilitarian calculation.
@SixSevenGooning@EliasofNE It is important to venerate our ancestors. It helps imbue group feeling and sense of place and continuity that grounds a people and makes them more self confident in who they are. It also dignifies the departed.
