Much of God’s saving activity in our history could remain completely unknown. That is a mystery difficult to grasp in an age that attaches so much importance to publicity. We tend to think that the more people know and talk about something, the more important must be. -B Manning
Grace substitutes a full, childlike and delighted acceptance of our need, a joy in total dependence. The good man is sorry for the sins which have increased his need. He is not entirely sorry for the fresh need they have produced. - C.S. Lewis
It is easier to deal with people’s needs in the mass in the sacred enclosure of the pulpit than to face them alone in the intimate relationship of a pastoral visit.
- Donald G. Miller
Don’t be impressed w/ charisma; look out for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees w/ their bad apples are going to be chopped down & burned.

Nearly everything that has happened to me has happened by surprise…When I thought I was in my story or in charge of it, I really have been only on the edge of it, carried along. Is this because we are in an eternal story that is happening partly in time? -Wendell Berry
Jesus seems to have come to carry religion out of the temples into the fields and sheep pastures, onto the roadsides and the banks of rivers, into the houses of sinners and publicans, into the town and the wilderness. -Wendell Berry
