PhD student at the University of Southampton. Interested in bat biology, ecology, conservation and evolution. Aim to become a researcher in the future.
We're hiring! Lecturer in Zoology (1.0fte) @BioSciChester @uochester - specific expertise in genetics and molecular biology within a Zoology field would be particularly welcome. https://t.co/NHRJYyITVz https://t.co/arXQNmXut3. Closing date: 20th Nov 2020. Please retweet!
I love #Ecology because it's the only scientific discipline where having huge pitfalls in your methodology is actually a good thing. It's #FrogFriday so here’s my second #ToadallyUnfrogettable video - all about my #Frog PhD research #SOTSEF#LGBTstem https://t.co/1RLgVE76bB
@TallyYoh @BatDeterrentRes Thanks! Lamp type did have an effect for Artibeus lituratus but no other species and they showed a slight preference towards Mercury Vapor lampposts. They also showed a strong negative response to lamppost power so artificial lighting is clearly very important for this species!
@OrlyRazgour Thanks! I can't reliably attribute the increase to a specific change but I suspect bats are migrating from the nearby Atlantic rainforest and Cerrado to the city because of the ongoing habitat degradation and species who can exploit cities will do so.
4/5 #WBTC1#PopBio1 We found that taxonomic and functional #diversity significantly increased over the study period but phylogenetic did not. Habitat suitability models performed well (AUC ~0.7). See the results for the temporal and spatial analysis attached!
5/5 #WBTC1#PopBio1 The ability to remotely analyse temporal trends and habitat preferences of #bats in cities with public data could greatly aid us in providing accurate information for the #conservation of #bats in cities. Special thanks to @ChrisFJMeyer and @profrobyoung !
3/5 #WBTC1#PopBio1 After quality control and accounting for sampling bias we quantified the taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic #diversity of #bats from 2004-2014 and determined important environmental factors affecting the distribution of common #bats using MaxEnt.
2/5 #WBTC1#PopBio1 We used a long-term dataset (>10 years) of species occurrence records collected as part of a public health monitoring scheme within the city. We also used a variety of environmental data collated from literature and publically available sources.
1/5 #WBTC1#PopBio1 For my MSc I analysed the temporal and spatial dynamics of #bats in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The city is in the transition zone between the Atlantic rainforest and Brazilian Cerrado, two highly threatened #biodiversity hotspots of great #conservation value.
5/5 #WBTC1#Conserve1 We need more research to understand the full impact of vehicle collision on #bats, particularly in the SEA region. For more information on this project, check out our first research paper here (multi-taxa focus): https://t.co/9y3g6O4TAr. 🦇🇹🇭
@mikemearls This kind of question is probably asked way too often. Can you cast a levelled spell as an action then a cantrip with your bonus action? For example, Plant Growth (Lvl 3 druid spell, action) followed by Shillelagh (Cantrip, bonus action).
