Yesterday, Sheik Gumi called half of Nigeria's population "infidels". He does not want the Christian "South" to be the minister of the FCT and he does not want them in charge of any security agency.
If not that a lot of "Southerners" are docile and not "radical", Nigeria would have towed the line of former Sudan for the past few years because of the irritating behaviors of Gumi and his fellow radicals.
By calling half of Nigeria's population "infidels", he meant that they are inferior and in political Islam, they should be treated as outcasts and conquered people.
The problem people like Gumi are constituting in Nigeria is beyond APC versus PDP versus Labor party. It is an ideology of evil that is built on Religious fundamentalism that led to the creation of Boko Haram and ISIS in Northern Nigeria.
Gumi ought to be in DSS detention if we are serious people in Nigeria. If Gumi can utter such profanity, that means any pastor can say the same thing tomorrow and get away with it.
Like I used to say, ideological differences cannot be solved by building good roads or good infrastructures but by diplomacy and building strong institutions.
President Tinubu needs to arrest Gumi for the sake of deterrents to other non-state actors.

THE OLD ORDER POLITICAL BRIDGE-BUILDING IN NIGERIA: The midwifing of systemic corruption.
1. A common narrative among some political juggernauts, especially the old corrupt order, in Nigeria is that for you to win elections you must build bridges. Of course, bridge-building in politics is a given, but when you hear it in Nigeria (as used by this set of corrupt politicians) it means something much more. Follow me in this article and you’ll understand.
2. In the run up of the 2023 Presidential election, one of the arguments put forward by the two top political parties in Nigeria was that the third-force party could not win even a State election talk less of Presidential election because it does not have structure. By structure they mean having members of the party who were, or are Governors, or members of national and state assemblies. Part of the structure they mean also include party officers and necessary functionaries to prosecute election, however the major component of the ‘structure’ is having members in political offices who could muster the resources and influence required to swing votes to its favour.
3. In the view of the old order politicians, the structure for winning elections is a network of very rich politicians who can use their money to buy influence, supports, and ultimately votes for the candidate they are supporting. Fact is that these rich politicians made these money they so utilize from stealing public funds.
4. So, when you hear this set of politicians say, “before you can win elections in Nigeria you need to build bridges”, what they mean is that you need to engage with these corrupt politicians in order to obtain their commitment to support your political ambition. In Nigerians, politicians have served jails terms for stealing, come out, and still use their money to influence votes and voters. They too are part of the structure they talk about.
5. To be able to build this kind of political bridges, the candidate will inescapably be initiated into the corruption cult because the conventional MoU is about “what is in it for me”. In effect the bridge is about the road to public funds in future. In building the bridges, such negotiations like who will nominate which minister, or head of which agency, or parastatal, etc are negotiated. These negotiations hardly consider competence and capacity to deliver, but about satisfying the MoU of the bridge builders.
6. The more this kind of bridge is built, the more the number of government functionaries are bogus, the more the cost of governance is hiked, the more the avenues for stealing public funds are increased, the more the enablers of corruption are enlarged, and the more the country bleeds, and the people live in penury. This is the reason Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world.
7. As this kind of bridge is built, MoU is established also on the security architecture, and who will handle what. This is because the right (wrong) persons must oversee security, if corruption must go on without questions, arrests or even persecutions.
8. When you hear ‘we got order from above’, or ‘our hands are tied’, it simply means that the builders of the corruption bridge have intervened, and so, abnormal can be allowed to be normal.
9. It is this kind of bridges that turns a recharge card seller into an owner of private jet in a few months, not that his business had been so scaled up to be able to afford that, but that the builders of the bridge decided to allocate to him $billions of FX in government official rate that he may sell at parallel market rate and make billions in matter of hours.
10. With this kind of bridge-building, there is absolutely no way corruption can end in Nigeria, because under its formula, the thieves, the Police and Judges are in the same club – they are part of the corrupt bridge project and cannot oppose one other.
11. There is however a genuine kind of bridge-building through which a candidate for political office can have sincere social contract with the electorates without involving the corrupt politician-gatekeepers at the various political constituency. This kind of bridge-building, however, would require that the candidate has no corrupt past and can show antecedents that can earn the people’s trust.
12. No one with a corrupt past can build this genuine political bridge to win elections because; (i) the corrupt politician-gatekeepers will expose his/her ugly past and use it against him/her before the people, (ii) the people cannot trust that such a candidate will live up to whatever promises he/she makes, so the people will rather demand for immediate gratification, since they are not sure of any other benefit when the candidate is elected into office.
13. This is the kind of bridge @PeterObi was able to build in the run up of the 2023 presidential election. From the outset, the corrupt class thought that since he was not ready to build their usual kind of bridge, they could mess him up by exposing his corrupt past. They their chagrin, they find no past corruption to hold him down with. They dug deeper and deeper, yet they found nothing. This was how @PeterObi met the first criteria for building this new kind of sincere political bridges.
14. Then he (Peter Obi) went about to tell Nigerians about his scoresheet in public service, especially as a former Governor and challenging them on every occasion to ‘go and verify’ all he said. Indeed, the people, led by the well-informed individuals, went all out to verify every single claim he made, and to the amazement of Nigerians and international observers, not a single of all he said could be contradicted. This was how he (@PeterObi) met the second criteria for building this new kind of sincere political bridges.
15. Seeing that he has broken the jinx of building political bridges that are tantamount to midwifing systemic corruption in the Nigeria political space, the members of this old order came after @PeterObi in many ways than one. Some of their propagandist even accused of being a member of the old, because he belonged to other political parties in the past, notwithstanding that they know fully well that what constitutes belonging to the old order is not belonging to different parties in the past, but about what you did in the past while in those parties. The older is about belonging to the corrupt class.
16. The emergence of @PeterObi as the face of a New Nigeria that Nigerians had hoped for to no avail for many decades has continued to rattle the old order. The battle is still on, but the good news is that most Nigerians, except the promoters and beneficiaries of the old order, have come to understand that what the old order called political bridge-building was nothing but the ‘midwifing of systemic corruption’. You may have heard them say; “how can he (Peter Obi) just come from nowhere and contest with a man that has been building the bridge for over 30 years and think he can win”, and other silly statements like this, unfortunately, Nigerians pay no attention to such side talks because they have come to find out that the 30 years bridge-building was simply 30 years of midwifing high profile corrupt system to achieving corrupt intention.
17. Truth is that politics in Nigeria will never again be business as usual. Peter Obi’s influence and most importantly the Obidient movement which in itself is bigger and greater than Peter Obi, has clearly shown that no good candidate needs to build corrupt bridges to win elections.
18. Peace be with you.
