"Lenders could stop people from falling into problem debt by holding off treating non-payments as defaults and by offering appropriate forbearance to those who need it" StepChange's @Peter_Tutton https://t.co/FpxoXulTbS
@hmtreasury That's an impressive response from mortgage lenders. Thinking back to 2008-2010, , broader mortgage safety nets were important for borrowers needing longer to recover. Thinking ahead six months, are safety nets still there for those who will need them?
@Andrew_F_Smith@StepChange@TheFCA Agree FCA changed the game with creditor behaviour. However decision to introduce bailiff regulation is sitting in front of Ministry of Justice ministers right now. So MOJ need to press 'go' button NOW. Then we can talk about how to implement.
@Andrew_F_Smith@StepChange@TheFCA That's a good thought Andrew. I'm not sure FCA will be simple way to regulate bailiffs... but we certainly need public sector debt practice brought up to FCA standards and effective independent regulation of bailiffs, which is long overdue
@csjthinktank@JoeShalam Excellent report highlighting government debt collection standards behind the curve. Ministry of Justice must get the ball rolling with independent bailiff regulation
