In #Somalia, severe droughts nearly led to famine, and now deadly floods exacerbated by #ElNiño are compounding the crisis.
@Petroc_W witnessed the devastation and highlights how WFP's #AnticipatoryAction programme averted the worst for affected communities ⬇️
#WATCH It's a race against time across the #HornOfAfrica as @WFP predicts that up to 20 million drought-affected people could be facing severe hunger by the end of the year.
@dwnews visited #Somalia where hunger has doubled since the beginning of 2022 👇

"The driest conditions to hit the #HornofAfrica in four decades killed Hamdi’s animals and uprooted her young family."
READ @FredHarter's piece for @thetimes on drought in #Somalia, as @WFP is forced to prioritize assistance due to dwindling resources 👇

Stop scrolling. Let's talk about #Somalia.
🚨🚨 Families are at risk of famine if rains continue to fail, livestock continue to die, food prices soar, and humanitarian relief can't reach those in need.

#SOMALIA: In 2011, the world said "never again." Yet Somalia is on the brink of famine again. 6M people are marching toward starvation. 330K children are at risk of dying now. This drought isn't letting up.
And, it gets worse: @WFP has less than half the $ we need to save lives.
Baardheere is one of the areas worst hit by #droughtinSomalia. 1000s of newly displaced people are hungry, malnourished & in critically urgent need of humanitarian support. @WFP and other @UNinSomalia agencies are operating in Baardheere - but funding & time are running out.
This honor is well deserved. COVID-19 is not just a health crisis—it is also now a food crisis, and @WFP is there to respond. I’m inspired by the thousands of people in the organization who have committed their lives to fighting hunger. https://t.co/WC5bAFO5FH
Thrilled + humbled that we at @wfp won the 2020 #NobelPeacePrize. Recognizes the work of many friends and colleagues, often in the toughest places in the world, to get lifesaving food to 100 million+ people. Hope it brings more focus on the 690 million suffering from hunger.
Ambassador @WCarlosIRL and @WFP Uganda country director Elkhidir Daloum signed a partnership agreement today, finalising @dfatirl contribution of €2 million to food & cash assistance for refugees in Uganda.
Shot and produced this last week, to show how prepacking food is helping to protect over a million #refugees in #Uganda from #Covid_19 - with a lot of hard work from the @WFP team in Uganda to make it happen.
Keeping people safe as they collect their food rations has always been a priority for WFP.
In #Uganda, our teams worked round the 🕐pre-packing food so it is quicker to collect and protects everyone from the risk of #COVID19.
It’s a huge privilege to be working with Seme and Malish, two #refugees (and @WFP storytellers) in #Uganda who run a youth group to help traumatized kids in their community. Really happy to have had the chance to interview them and write this piece.
Seme & Malish set up a youth group to help refugee kids in #Uganda heal from the trauma they experienced when fleeing #SouthSudan.
While #coronavirus has derailed some of their plans, it is not stopping them helping the kids who need them the most.

Delighted to hear of @MalishJames3’s success in this global photo competition, and privileged to be able to work with him in Bidibidi refugee settlement, #Uganda! This award is a testament to his tremendous commitment to photography, film and journalism as a @WFP Storyteller.
👏Congratulations to @MalishJames3 in #uganda🙌 who won 2nd place in the Storytellers Innovation Award @FoodPhotoAward for this 📸 of a group of women preparing food for the youth conference in Bidibidi refugees’ settlement

I wrote this after a mission to Bidibidi #refugee settlement, one of the largest in the world, to see how @WFP@WFP_Africa is keeping the people we serve safe from #COVID19#coronavirus:

I was able to get to Bidibidi this week, to document how @WFP is protecting our staff, our partners and the people we serve from #COVID19#coronavirus - while continuing to distribute life-saving food to over 1 million #Refugees in #Uganda. #COVID19UG
To keep people both safe from #COVID19 and fed, @WFP and its partners have changed how life-saving food is distributed to more than 1 million refugees in #Uganda. See how it's done👇
Empowering children musically is another way of allowing them to express them selves and identifying their potential contribution to the development of their country. #musicisourewapon# I CAN SOUTH SUDAN. I am planting seeds of love.
