Ah yes, the Mediterranean. Famous this decade for its idyllic wildfires, water rationing and 45°C summers. Sign me up.
Quite possibly the stupidest argument ever committed to newsprint.
What's next: Britain can't stop global crime. Scrap the police and embrace the Wild West.
This is mental. Climate change doesn’t mean we’ll have Summers like the Med.
It means every year will be among the coolest for the rest of your life.
If the planet is 4 degrees warmer from baseline a century from now (it’s now 1.5) there will be no ‘GDP’, & maybe no Campari!
It's bonkers the carbon saving which electrification can achieve: transitioning to an EV, ASHP and PV + BATT results in a 9x reducing in carbon emissions without any reduction in quality of life ⚡🤯
So after a section of UK media spent the last few years telling us the grid cannot cope with heat pumps and EV’s the same commentators are advocating the mass installation of air conditioning
It’s almost of through their historical narratives were completely wrong.
Solar panels lose 15-20% of output when it’s hot
AS DO GAS POWER STATIONS.
Wonder why that’s not mentioned?
(Btw it’s much quicker and cheaper to build some extra solar to plug the gap than gas stations)
(And 4.5GW of French nuclear offline because they struggle in hot weather too)
"[in] 2003 this heatwave would happen once every 10,000 years, but in our current climate.. this will happen once every 100 years.. & depending on our trajectory.. [it] could happen as often as every other year"
@Lauratobin1 on a study that spells it out
@doobry@OctopusEnergy Though I guess your precise needs (power hungry lab setup etc) mean such evening out would t still not happen. Hope you can sort it either way!
@doobry@OctopusEnergy Hmmm. Have you compared your likely energy cost if you switched to Cosy and only charged during the off peak times? Doubtless you have, just think it'd be interesting to see if the overall £/kwh evened out to less overall
@WayneSmyth6@philippac72@g__j I understand the benefits of free trade, specialisation, hedging against risk etc. S'all good, with AI you can too - hit up chatgpt for more. Adieu.
