Dublin Birder. Love of nature & birds, particularly raptors of the world. Enjoy birding abroad. Would like to see every bird in the Collins Bird Guide.🤞
@Liza137823 The cat is obvious but I can see loads of animals & birds. Some are just heads & some are even hard to refind so maybe it’s just me & it’s like seeing things in the clouds
Been birding in N.E. Greece (near Turkish border) for 3 weeks. Had these interesting & tame Barn Owls beside guest house. 3 adult birds & unknown amount of young. 2 nests so I presume 1M & 2F. Also 1 adult maybe 1/2 guttatta.
@agk10k I’m on a plane back to Dublin after a 3 week raptor fest in NE Greece. I’m going through my photos & I thought I good shots of R.F.F till I seen yours.
Beautiful. Well done
Poachers in #Lebanon are exploiting the current security vacuum to target migrating birds.
Our team found this freshly shot Great-white Pelican in addition to 13 shot White Storks.
Despite precarious conditions, our patrols are deterring hunters just by being present.
Stork slaughter continues in #Lebanon. Poachers are exploiting the lack of police checks to target migrating birds.
During a patrol our teams found 13 shot White Storks near Terbol, in the north 💔
We are on the ground deterring ‘hunters’ & will stay until May.
@CABS_REPORTS What is the point or even the challenge in shooting a big bird like that. I don’t mean small birds or animals would be better but Small moving Targets or clay targets would be a greater challenge I presume
I had a 5 raptor day in my bit of N.E. Dublin the other day. Buzzard, Redkite, Sparrowhawk Peregrine & Kestrel from Donnycarney to Darndale with Kes being the rarest in that area for me these days. All from the car so not a bad haul
I’m getting loads of notifications on Home Screen from unknown women who I don’t follow or know in any way. There slightly suggestive but nothing really. I worry these women don’t even know their stuff is being sent to people they don’t know. Any Gen welcome please
I’m devastated. I’ve been told that my little paradise & more importantly the Badgers set has been levelled. Were the animals removed? Are they trapped alive underground? Can they dig their way out ? don’t know anything 1st hand but i feel like borrowing the JCB & trying to open
I was delighted to be part of the celebrations launching ‘The Birds of Co. Donegal’ by Ralph Shepard. A beautiful book with superb paintings by Rob Vaughan, it sets a new high for books of this genre. Congratulations Ralph!
Horrible weather in Dublin City right now but major passage of Redwing’s overhead. Calls every few seconds that I was out off the car, so no official no. per time but a lot of birds moving.
@GardaTraffic Opiates and Benzos can be in prescription & even over the counter drugs. I’m not condoning or comparing the above incident in any way. Just saying a lot of people on the road may test positive. I’ve been told by a doctor that it IS legal to drive on proscribed methadone?
@IanStev21081570 Thanks Ian. I must send it to someone in the know. It was about 100m from the Wicklow border but I don’t know has their range been up that far previously?
Found this dead shrew in Co. Carlow.Ireland. Don’t know if the messed up teeth are postmortem. From the Net it’s a little big for Pygmy & a little small for White-toothed Shrew. I don’t know if the body would shrink or expand after death. If anyone knows sp. please let me know Tks
A balance is what I would expect to happen. But there are NO rabbits & mix-amitoses hasn’t been here in years as far as I know. It’s a mystery. If anyone knows please tell. Hedgehog’s are thin on the ground also? Photo off the fields attached
The only thing that’s missing on the land these days is Rabbits. The fields have names & one is the Rabbit field. I seen a stoat hunting them a few times years ago. People are saying it’s the Buzzards & Kites as their a recent arrival. They can’t kill every rabbit.
The farm is made up of 8 small to medium fields divided by great old hedges. A man makes hay on it & he doesn’t use chemicals. It took a few years but now the place is alive. Grasshoppers, Butterflies, Horseflies, Ticks & all the way up to Buzzards nesting. Nature bounces back🙏
Swallows in the family’s unused farm in Carlow are coming out from the sheds at 4am approx. Today it was 4.20. It’s still pitch dark. I thought something was disturbing them but it’s too regular. Only for their calling constantly u wouldn’t c them. Bats & swallows together! Mad.
