Good news for Langston and Rock Creek. Both courses were in limbo; the administration didn't seem to have any interest in them, and no other viable operators were stepping forward.
But the effort to transform East Potomac into a high-end major championship venue will continue to be a battle. That vision for the facility would just be so hard to execute — logistically, legally, financially.
After months of uncertainty, the Trump administration agreed to a deal that gives National Links Trust oversight of Langston and Rock Creek Park golf courses. Govt will be renovate East Potomac golf course. More coming soon...
Lots happening for DC's public courses tonight
On site at East Potomac this morning, staff’s only clue that anything might be happening at the end of the day or tomorrow is this article. No one at the golf course or NLT has been contacted by the admin regarding shutting down. Maintenance staff proceeding like any other Sunday
A big loss for affordable, public golf in America.

A moving ode from a father who plays golf with his young son on East Potomac, a public course that is beaten down but great, busy but lovely—the ideal antidote to a workaholic city. A course Trump's shutting down this weekend

A statement from a National Links Trust spokesperson, in response to the news that the Trump administration plans to take over management of East Potomac Golf Links on Sunday:
NEWS: East Potomac Golf is expected to shut down on Sunday after the last tee time as the Trump administration officially takes it over.
Renovations will start at a later date once compliance has been met. Tom Fazio expected to lead the renovation.
Additionally, the admin has offered the National Links Trust a renewed lease for Rock Creek Park Golf with a waiver for unpaid rent.

Shout-out to William Doffermyre, Solicitor of the Department of the Interior, who is the person primarily responsible for pushing the National Links Trust out of its management of East Potomac Golf Course, and for scuttling a planned Tom Doak restoration in favor of an absolutely ridiculous Tom Fazio blow-up that will result in D.C. golf becoming less affordable and accessible.
Doffermyre is allegedly very interested in becoming a big muckety-muck in the golf world. Good luck with that, Bill!
Last night Ben Sasse confirmed my suspicion that Dr. Santiago Schnell, provost at Dartmouth, is quickly becoming the single most influential voice in higher education. If you haven’t already read his essay on AI that broke the internet you should.
“AI has not created new educational problems; it has made old ones impossible to ignore. The habit of rewarding performance over understanding, fluency over depth, and polish over genuine engagement was already present in our institutions before the first language model was trained. AI simply industrializes and accelerates those habits until their emptiness becomes undeniable…”

Breaking WSJ:
The Trump admin plans to abandon its defense of Trump's executive orders sanctioning several law firms.
DOJ — as soon as today — is expected to drop its appeals of four trial-court rulings that struck down Trump's actions against Jenner & Block, WilmerHale, Perkins Coie, and Susman Godfrey. https://t.co/nytFZoiIIR
The National Links Trust saved three Washington D.C. golf courses from ruin. Then Donald Trump got involved. A story about power, whether people have any claim to the places they've spent their lives, and a president's war on public golf https://t.co/WB08TEacBW
@ProfSchleich@dbroockman@j_kalla If Democrats want to stay relevant, and to deliver for the public, they cannot wait for unions to change. They need to break more often with their friends.

This is a really astonishing claim:
Students in Mississippi & Louisiana score higher on reading tests than students in California & New York despite spending way less money per pupil and having higher child poverty rates.
Decided to double check the data because, if true, this should be alarming for blue state leaders.
And yup, it checks out.
Reading performance (NAEP 2024, Grade 4 reading, average scale score):
Mississippi: 219
Louisiana: 216
New York: 215
California: 212
Child poverty (SAIPE; “estimated percent of people age 0–17 in poverty,” 2023):
Louisiana: 25.2%
Mississippi: 24.3%
New York: 18.6%
California: 15.0%
Per-pupil spending (public K–12 “current expenditures per pupil,” FY2023, inflation-adjusted to FY2023 dollars)
New York: $29,588
California: $18,568
Louisiana: $14,822
Mississippi: $12,238
It should be unacceptable to spend that much more taxpayer money while delivering worse results for students.
More than a week after a winter storm, students should be back in school and neighborhood streets should be safely passable. These are the core government services that matter most. Montgomery County must do better.
The @MoCoCouncilMD hearing on Tuesday can’t come soon enough.
37 yr old ICU nurse Alex Pretti murdered by ICE in broad daylight with zero justification for deadly force. I mean ZERO. This feels like a watershed moment in American history that should enact change, but won't.
Very reminiscent of Sandy Hook when we all said "if that didn't get us to change, we never well!" Feels like another one of those. Because if you cannot admit this was wrong you're either an idiot or a liar, and I think you're a bad person and an unAmerican asshole. The hypocrisy from the same people who have been proudly screaming about the Ist and 2nd amendment for hundreds of years now trying to say protesting and carrying a legal firearm is reason enough to be murdered...what a joke. And the response from our leaders from Donald Trump to Tim Walz is all dangerous and pathetic. Were just a 3rd world country now where masked morons with no training and a gun can kill you for no reason other than "well we won't get in trouble for it tor" Out of all the dumb entities to blindly follow be of your political affiliation, supporting ICE is by far the most pathetic. ICE agents and their supporters the biggest trash in America maybe ever
