Over 40 Abducted, Two Teachers Killed: Why Oyo Schools Are Still Shut!
Public schools in Oyo State will remain closed until security improves, according to the Nigeria Union of Teachers.
The decision follows the abduction of more than 40 students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. The union said two teachers were killed, while some victims remain in captivity.
NUT says fear and uncertainty have made classrooms unsafe for both teachers and learners. Some parents have also reportedly started withdrawing their children from schools.
The union is demanding stronger security measures and the safe rescue of those still being held before schools can reopen.
Should schools reopen before all the abducted victims are rescued?
