England is home to one of the rarest habitats on Earth.
Chalk streams are crystal-clear rivers formed by water filtered slowly through chalk hills and aquifers.
They stay cool, clean, and remarkably clear, which is why they are so beautiful.
There are only around 200 chalk streams in the world, and most of them are in England.
You’ll find them mainly in southern and eastern England, especially in counties such as Hampshire, Wiltshire, Kent and Norfolk.
Famous examples include the Test, Itchen, Kennet and Lambourn.
They are an extraordinary part of our countryside, rare, fragile, and worth protecting.
Had you seen a chalk stream before?
