Around 2,500 Kashmiri youth have reportedly been picked up in the last few days. As the country welcomes the Government of India’s decision to withdraw cases against student protesters elsewhere, one question remains: why is the same compassion denied to Kashmir’s youth?

If reconciliation is the right path for young people in the rest of the country, why is it considered the wrong path for Kashmir? Applying one standard to the rest of India and another to Kashmir sends a dangerous message and risks deepening alienation.

It was such a peaceful movement, feel so sad that it had to take a violent turn. My heart goes out to the students and their families who were hurt. Paper leak is a very serious issue, and I am glad to know n see that the kids of our country have come together for a better educational system, and their parents supported them.

I truly appreciate the stand they have taken, showing dedication, sincerity, and keenness to study hard n make their future and a greater, educated India. This andolan, this protest, is the right way to go abt it, n the students have done this peacefully. So courageous and brave. Driven and motivated towards education, this generation will make India proud.

This issue is between the students and the educational system, it should not be hijacked politically, the credit should only go to the students of our country, and I am sure the government will also give them all the support n make it a stronger educational system. Yes, we Kashmiris like tourists @TheIrtiqaMufti. Why wouldn’t we? They come here spend their money, support local businesses and help boost our economy. They come to enjoy Kashmir’s beauty and nature. Why would we dislike them?

Many families in Kashmir depend on tourism for their livelihood. There are cab drivers who have bought new Innova cars on loans just to serve tourists. There are shopkeepers in Srinagar, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and many other places whose businesses are largely dependent on tourism. Shikara riders, hotel owners, guides, pony handlers, restaurant owners, handicraft sellers and many many others earn their livelihood because tourists visit Kashmir. Tourism supports thousands of families across the Valley.

That’s why I don’t understand your tweet. What was your thinking behind posting it? Aren’t you a Kashmiri? Don’t you know how important tourism is for our people? What was the logic behind it? Were you trying to create hate against tourists? Because that’s exactly the message your tweet gives.

I hope your mother, @MehboobaMufti being a former Chief Minister, will tell you that this was the wrong message to send.

Yes, we Kashmiris do not like double-faced people. We do not like those who are willing to sell Kashmir’s interests, its youth, and its future for their own political or personal benefit IYKYK.

I travelled through Great Nicobar today.

These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow.

The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs.

The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away.

This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language.

So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime.

It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
