Excellent work from the Igaki lab. Free ribosomal proteins that are not incorporated into ribosomes are degraded by the ubiquitin degradation system, preventing cellular stress from excess unused proteins.

We are pleased to announce our latest paper published in eLife. Here, we have visualized that confluent MDCK cells secrete PGE2 in a manner dependent on stoshastic calcium spikes. https://t.co/yRXnpjZ17d
This year's Japan Prize will be awarded to Dr. Ron Evans, who is a mentor to Prof. Akira Kakizuka at Kyoto University and many other Japanese researchers in the field. Congratulations!

We report the visualization and quantification of PGE2 secreted by epithelial cells. A single calcium spike causes a cell to secrete 0.25 fmol PGE2, or 150 million PGE2, which activates PKA in 1000 neighboring cells. https://t.co/jOaX6cM9VZ
#OptoRevolution is off to an exciting start in Sanya, Hainan, with talks by Atsushi Miyawaki, @campbell_FPs, @jinzhanglab, and Michiyuki Matsuda covering new work in fluorescent proteins and biosensors.
Atsushi, I still have your freezer box!
Join us at the inaugural “Optorevolution: Exploring the Frontiers of Physiology with Light” conference!
It will be held in tropical Sanya, Hainan, China from November 18-22. Details and registration:

Sakaue-Sawano and Miyawaki have published a paper describing a new cell cycle biosensor, Fucci5. In addition to the improved sensitivity, the new Fucci is free from the patents of fluorescent proteins, paving the way to the commercial use!
At last week's meeting of the Japanese Society for Cell Biology, the CSF Awards were presented to Dr. Ryosuke Nishimura and Dr. Satoru Takahash. Both received recommendations from over 20 council members. Congratulations!

All of the raw microscopy data from our publications (since 2013) are archived in SSBD:database / SSBD:repository. It's not only helpful for the research community, but also for ourselves. Thanks to @ssbd_en for all the support!
@usa0ri I believe, the award is given to our staff and students including Saori for their hard work and research. As a representative of the team, I am going to the Imperial Palace with the WBC director.
Congratulations to Dr. Tobias Meyer – Newly Elected Member to the @americanacad ! Dr. Meyer's research focuses on understanding how mammalian cells integrate growth factor, cell-cell contact, and cell-matrix contact signals to control cell function. @tobiasmeyerlab
