Juneteenth is for Black Americans, specifically Black Texans. You are welcomed to host an event but if it is not catered to Black Americans & Black American culture, don’t label it a Juneteenth event. So no, afrobeats/dancehall/etc. should not be the focus of Juneteenth events
Happy Juneteenth!
It’s important to read and understand the historical context of this day, and why it was not recognized as a holiday priorly
Black American history is American history, especially the pieces that have been suppressed and covered up due to shame
I peeped pretty early on how much women are expected to do unpaid labor, under the guise of “community.”
I am very strict with my time and energy so if I notice that you move funny/deliberately make poor choices, it’s ✌🏽 from me.
one of the main reasons i’m so gentle with myself is cause i believe i’ve already experienced enough hardship in my life. i’ve already been mishandled and undervalued by others and myself at times. so i deserve more patience, forgiveness, and consideration at this point.
The ageism with rap careers is very sad but I will always give credit to Nicki Minaj for breaking the barrier. 2 Chainz also didn't pop off with a solo career until his mid 30s. If you're 30 plus, you could actually still make it now. However, there's really no money in rap.
He still went to look for the father that abandoned him for 18years ,and told the world his mother “restricted” him .
There’s no benefit being a single mom .
women need to learn how to compartmentalize people and especially men if they want to win at the game of life
stop trying to make one person fit all your needs, collect people for different reasons just like men do. thats the actual power of having a “roster”
Yet it is always women who are expected to be inconvenienced.
Out of the +1k testimonies shared under my tweets, not a single man has come forward saying he missed school, postponed getting his driver’s licence, put his studies on hold, sacrificed his sleep, or gave up opportunities in order to care for children. Not one.
So enough with the language that seeks to guilt women into accepting unequal burdens. The reality is that women are overwhelmingly the ones expected to adjust, sacrifice and make themselves smaller for the sake of others.
It’s a big big disease. Most women want to believe they’re bigger than the program and that’s why they look down on women who seem to be struggling, going through domestic violence.
The stigma is wild.
