Lovely day talking to future biologists at Techniquest year 12 biology conference about my research! 🧪
Hoping my PowerPoint highlighted the beauty of Microalgae ;-)
Thank you @PennyNeyland and @swanscience for the opportunity!
Great fun delivering @swanscience outreach conference to schools today. @SwanseaUni staff, postgrads and alumni in collaboration with @Techniquest inspiring the next generation of #biologists 🪲🦋🐝🌻🌱🦞🐠
Reinventing @ALGADProject protein for pet food 🐹🐰

This is a great story. Amazing that algal light sensing proteins can be harnessed in this manner via a gene therapy route. Super cool.

CCAP 678/3 Spirogyra varians
We shipped this strain yesterday and it looks so lovely on agar with its swirly growth.
Originally collected in Cambridge in 1947, this is one of our older strains (though a youngster compared to CCAP 211/11B Chlorella vulgaris- collected in 1890!)
Thank you @IPSAlgae, @ipc2021 and all the people involved! It was a great conference to learn and talk about the work of so many world-leading researchers in phycology.
Congratulations to the Papenfuss prize winners!
Hopefully see you all at IPC2025! 🧪

Just finished the first day of testing students for coronavirus!
Was lovely to be a comforting face to safely help them undertake their tests before processing the sample.
Well done to the team for providing a vital service to allow students and staff to return home safely.
"They have a harvester that separates the algae from the water and returns the water in a non-algae state. That algae is then further solidified and trucked away to be used as fertilizer, to make foam products such as sneakers." https://t.co/ValU84TRgQ
