Take time to reflect on the privilege you have and how it has impacted your life. Educate yourself on the systematic racism that exists in our society. Engage in the conversation. We can do better.
@boyetranjo2 Yes, two separate information sessions were held for potential participants which included discussing their confidentiality/anonymity. As well parents and youth information sheets were given which included this info.
@KevinFreemanSPT Great presentation! I’ve never seen this type of intervention/exercise before! Do you believe it would their be feasible to implement this in home-based program or community based?
@CatGarringtonPT Thanks! I used to do compete nationally as a swimmer so spent much of my youth specialising in swimming. It is interesting to look back and reflect on this time as an athlete knowing the results of my study and others in this topic area.
@drdac19 This reiterates the message that a wide range in sport diversity to help encourage and promote decision making and anticipation skills is most useful for youth athletes.
@drdac19 The original hypothesis was that there would be a ceiling effect to the protective nature of diverse sport participation. This may exists when looking at time spent per week in diverse sports, but does not appear to exist in regards to the number of diverse sports.
Thank you very much @InBetaPhysio @jchevan and @bendotellis! What a great experience to present and engage with other physios, looking forward to reading more of the other presentations!
Thanks to all of you who have followed along, read the presentations, liked retweeted, commented and engaged in any way with #PTTC20!
We hope you have enjoyed this as much as we have and that you've learnt something new and felt part of a big #globalPT family
Wow! Thanks so much to all of our presenters for sharing their research, it's been absolutely brilliant to read all about all of your work
Please continue to engage with the presenters and their research, let's use this as the start for ongoing conversations not the end #PTTC20
@robgrieve17@jillfromrhyl Thank you! I believe more translation of research in this area is needed to coaches, parents and athletes involved in competitive sport. This would hopefully reduce career injuries and promote greater athletic success.
See this thread below for a summary of a research project recently completed by @PhysioAmber on the topic of Sports Diversification influence on Injury within Elite Youth Football. A pleasure to work with Amber on this study ⬇️⬇️
@s_karbowski Past research has shown that athletes tend to specialise between 12-14 years, however those who specialise after 18 may be more likely to achieve elite success.
