For whatever reason the closure, this is really sad for the area. The place was great fun, served good things and catered for everyone including the kids who loved every minute they spent there. How can an area develop if the decent places have to close?
@CatherineWest1@nelsabbey@DowneyJD Yes please sort this Catherine as we locals want more vibrant places like Hawker Union to crop up. If this place goes I truly think WG will just show itself as the run down waste of space it currently seems doomed to always be. The council must listen to its residents.
@haringeycouncil not even an acknowledgement of this tweet about #Hawkerunion@StreetFeastLDN usually you at least say it’s been passed to relevant department....what are the issues with regard this site? Surely residents should be informed why it doesn’t work for you? #woodgreen
Can see that @StreetFeastLDN#HawkerUnion have lots of support from local residents so please @haringeycouncil@CllrEjiofor do the right thing & help make this work. People work hard & need pleasurable places to go to relax in their own neighbourhoods. #HawkerUnion provides that!
@CatherineWest1@nelsabbey@DowneyJD Any update @CatherineWest1 ?As someone who has lived in Wood Green my whole life & watched the area fall by the wayside, while places like Walthamstow embraced fun & innovating business with community at their heart. Hawker Union is an important part of Wood Greens transition
@DowneyJD@haringeycouncil@CllrEjiofor what, if anything, are you going to do to avert the imminent closure of Hawker Union, something that the community of Wood Green & surrounding areas very much wants & appreciates?
@DowneyJD@haringeycouncil What!!!! Have any of the council officers even been to Hawker Union? Why aren’t they embracing a great addition to Wood Green - somewhere safe that I can socialise with my teenager, great venue in an otherwise soulless area - what’s the issue?
Just to be clear on something because I have seen at least one local councillor lying about this: To date, we have invested over £450,000 to open Hawker Union. All of that was our own money. We have not received anything from Haringey Council or from anyone else.
We have had such a difficult time with the local authority in Haringey that I don’t think we will stick it out much longer. Terrible, terrible people to deal with. It’s a shame as we’ve created such a great space there with Hawker Union.
