Prepper, homesteader, beekeeper, shooter, blogger, writer. Always armed, sometimes disarming. If you like any of those topics, you should check out my blog.
The socialists in our government hate people like me. We represent everything they hate about America's past and everything they want to change in its future https://t.co/duZRK8i99A
@FarmGirlCarrie Yep. I had to be home by six for dinner, but could go out after dinner during the summer and then be home by dark. We knew all the local kids and were welcome in many of their homes. We never felt unsafe.
@MAC_Arms I had a friend who built one and drove it to high school every day. It had no ignition key, but he didn't worry about anyone stealing it because it had a choke, and most kids didn't know how to start a vehicle with a choke!
@Lead_Flinger I reread my entire Heinlein collection while out of work during COVID. Some were yellowed paperbacks that dated back to the 1980s. Others were hardbacks I bought when he had a new book. He was a wise man and he lived during a great era. How many know he was the origin of "Grok?"
Can anyone give me feedback on the Olight Odin 2000 versus the Streamlight 88071 rail mount? I have both weapon-mounted lights in my shopping cart and need to pick one. Is the not-as-bright Streamlight worth the extra $50?
@matt_vanswol As someone who was stranded by Helene for six weeks, I know how valuable assistance like this can be. We have heard great things about the Amish who have come South to help out.
@buitengebieden This is why it is good to have a rooster, and why they are often twice the size of the females. Of course, fertilized eggs so your hens can raise their own chicks is another benefit.
@Meetheepeople@Azraels_Brother@texasrunnerDFW We get Red Star chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery. They are a "sex link" variety meaning you can tell hens from roosters when they are born by their coloring. Our 19 hens are averaging 17 eggs per day right now. We have just one rooster, as you can see.
@Riflemanscreed2 I used iron sights until about age 50 when my ability to see the front sight deteriorated because of presbyopia. It was so blurry, my group sizes tripled. My options were to shoot wearing reading glasses or go to an optic. I opted for the latter but run BUIS. Getting old sucks!
@paledry@ScottPresler We have 19 hens and one rooster. We got used to the crowing pretty quickly. He definitely helps protect the flock, and we can raise our own chicks when we get a broody hen.
@MissKrissula @matt_vanswol Yes. Good people, friendly and helpful. @SamaritansPurse showed up when the said they would. They helped us remove at least ten fallen trees. We made a nice donation afterwards.
In comparison, it took FEMA 115 days to send an inspector. By then, many of our repairs were done.
@TaraBull808 Yes, but you need a secure coop and chicken run to avoid losses to predators, and that can be expensive. We produce more eggs than we need and sell the excess to offset the cost of feed.
@STLewis19 Dementia robs the newest memories first, so he may be remembering when you did have a relationship and perhaps talked frequently. Or he could expressing his desire to do so. This may also be your only chance to come to terms with him and forgive each other before it is too late.
@deaflibertarian As a beekeeper and a homesteader, I kind of have this... just with a dash of wilderness and scattering of rocks.
Ok, boulders. They are actually boulders.
And right now its snowing.
But we'll get there.
