There is an isolation that comes with being the spiritual rear guard during deployment that I have not seen talked about.

You carry heavy convictions in prayer, things revealed in the quiet hours that weigh on your heart, yet you sense, rightly, that you should not let the full contents of your heart flow from your lips, lest the enemy intercept and use it against those you cover.

Alexander has not heard the full weight I carry. Neither has my father. Some burdens are meant to be carried between me and God alone, for now.

It is a particular loneliness — one that mirrors his own. The weight he carries in the field, the weight I carry at home. Two silences that never quite meet, and yet somehow are not separate.
