Lionel Richie is a vocal ally to the LGBTQ+ community. 🌈
Back in October 2020, the American singer-songwriter and musician took to Facebook to share an inspirational message in honour of Spirit Day, an annual LGBTQ awareness and anti-bullying movement.
In the post he wrote, “To all my young people out there: it's okay to be who you are! No matter your background, race, religion, ability, sexual orientation, or gender identity!”

On 1 September 1969, West Germany partially decriminalised homosexual acts between men.
Instead of repealing the harsh Paragraph 175 of its penal code, the country reformed it, making it legal for s*xual acts to occur between men so long as they were both over the age of 21.
However, penalties remained in place for s*xual acts performed by those under 21 and same-sex pr*stitution.
The move was a huge step for West Germany, which - between 1945 and 1969 - had convicted around 50,000 men for homosexuality.
