Czterodniowy wypad w Dolomity na trekking i via ferraty. Nie byłem tu w porze letniej od dokładnie 10 lat. Wcześniej przez 4-5 lat rokrocznie przynajmniej 1x. Dziś trekking rozgrzewkowy z Żonką i już widzę, że wiele się zmieniło. Tłumy a po wyglądzie oraz zachowaniu widać, że ponad połowa jest tu tylko po to aby wrzucić zdjęcie na Instagram.
Dziś pętla wokół Tre Cime di Lavaredo - taka nasza Dolina Kościeliska. Mam nadzieję, że jutro na wymagającej ferracie tak nie będzie.
Pobudka 4:45 więc dobrej nocy.

Ferrata delle Trincee wzięła swoją nazwę od okopów, bo niestety w tym rejonie toczyły się również ciężkie walki podczas I wojny światowej. Jest więc mnóstwo tuneli, umocnień i innych „pamiątek”. #dolomiti #góry

The Dolomites were once beneath a tropical sea.

Hard to believe when you’re looking up at those huge pale cliffs in northern Italy, but that’s what the rock tells us.

Around 240 million years ago, this part of Europe sat under the warm waters of the Tethys Ocean. Corals, algae, sponges and other marine life helped form reefs and large carbonate platforms on the seafloor.

Parts of those ancient formations are still there.

Long before the Dolomites became mountains, they were part of a marine world filled with reefs and atolls. Then came volcanic activity, shifting land and eventually the collision between Africa and Europe.

The old seabed was pushed upward as the Alps formed.

After that, glaciers and erosion spent millions of years shaping the cliffs and ridges we see today.

It’s one of the reasons the Dolomites look so unusual compared with other parts of the Alps.

The rock also changes color depending on the light. Around sunrise and sunset, the mountains can turn pink, orange and red. The effect is known locally as *Enrosadira*. During the day, the same rock can look almost white, which is where the old nickname “Pale Mountains” comes from.

So if you ever find yourself hiking through the Dolomites, remember what you’re actually looking at.

Much of that rock started at the bottom of an ancient tropical sea.

Knowing that makes the place a lot more interesting.

Oczywiście w Dolomitach występują szarotki alpejskie i chyba jest ich więcej. Spotkane na szlaku, cieszą tak samo jak w Tatrach.
