This is international recognition for our efforts to introduce legislative change to support the function of journalism in democracy and the public’s right to know in Australia. Kind of an indication the Govt should introduce our recommendations, right! Big thanks to TrustLaw.
We're so proud to have won at the #TrustLawAwards for our crucial work using legal pro bono to drive change.
It's an honour to be celebrated by @TRF alongside other firms and NGOs working to make a lasting impact on society: https://t.co/NmDySR9pno
The Taliban’s oppression requires sustained and principled international pressure, UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett said, warning that the Taliban’s rights violations are becoming more entrenched and systematic.

Got to speak on media and democracy alongside @mariaressa and @BethanyAllenEbr for @ASPI_org#TSD w @davidwroe — it was a joy! Numerous ideas on how to strengthen and protect our information environment & the public’s right to know. We must #holdtheline.
Big thanks to ASPI!
“Transparency sits at the heart of our democracy. If we don’t know what is done in our name, how do we exercise informed political judgement?” terrific piece by @KieranPender in @THEMONTHLY — we have sought reforms for yonks at @4JournoFreedom. Time for Mark Dreyfus to act.
Josh could have challenged Scott Morrison for the leadership, he didn’t. Josh could have put his hand up for Kooyong, he didn’t. He could have run for the Victorian Senate vacancy, he didn’t. Women are not collateral damage for Josh Frydenberg’s regrets.
Huge congratulations to Zahra and the @ZanTimes team for winning the human rights press award. The work you do is crucial and empowering. This is so deserved.
This announcement brought tears to my eyes, it reminded me of the hardship and challenges we faced to keep @ZanTimes running, to keep our colleagues safe in 🇦🇫.
We couldn't be here if it wasn't because of the courage and resilience my colleagues show day in and day out. (1/2)
A fantastic initiative by @ZanTimes! It's crucial to hold those who perpetrate violence against women, girls, and activists accountable, particularly in Afghanistan's culture of impunity.
So excited for our fellows and proud of this program, led by my fantastic colleague @MeetraQ. Each fellow will end the program with an investigation that helps fill gaps in the information landscape of Afghanistan, incorporating #OSINT along the way.
Meet our fantastic Noor fellows, each with a diverse range of skills in research, journalism and human rights.
Omid Sobhani is an Afghan journalist who has collaborated with major international media outlets like ABC News Australia, as well as various local media organisations in #Afghanistan.
Omid will investigate the coverage of land grabbing of Hazara and Uzbek minorities in the Afghan media. It’s great to be working with him over the next four months.
Managing privacy settings on social media can feel like finding your way through a puzzle, right? But it’s important to get it right.
Think of it like this: You’ve got to decide who gets to see your stuff, who can send you friend requests, who can look you up using your phone or email address and who can see your personal information such as your place of work, family members etc. It’s like setting the boundaries of your own little online world. So, take a peek at these step by step guides to set things right! Let’s begin with Facebook.
Big thanks to @C4ADS for contributing to this important project. You’ve created a platform that will serve as an evolving archive to continue to track violations against women in Afghanistan. A pleasure working with you to develop @ZahraYusufi and @ZanTimes’ vision.
NEW: Since the #Taliban took over #Afghanistan in 2021, women have faced severe oppression and violence. In coordination with @Cen4infoRes, we’ve partnered with @ZanTimes to develop a new platform for visualizing this human rights crisis. 1/2

Today, Zan Times launches an interactive map documenting the killing, disappearance, and arrest of ‘public’ women – defined as those working or studying outside the home. The map, which was created in partnership with CIR’s Afghan Witness, is an ongoing archive of incidents dating back to September 2021.

Delighted to have played a role in bringing @Etilaatroz’s vision for a fact-checking unit to life! @afghan_witness has worked w Zaki & his team to integrate OSINT methodologies into Sanjah’s work. An incredibly important masthead is now out and working against disinformation! 💪

1/9 Today, as every day, CIR is standing up for women, continuing to combat online harms such as gendered abuse and disinformation women are facing.
We couldn't be more proud to have so many inspiring women in our ranks and as our partners, working endlessly to create a more just and equal world.

@Cen4infoRes@wiczipedia@93Bcr @SophiaFreuden @irynadek There are many (many!) more badass women working at @Cen4infoRes and in other organisations using #OSINTforgood. Not all of them are public, but they all make a difference. Cheers to them all.
Today, we stand with Afghan WHRD @ShaharzadAkbar as she briefs the #UNSC on the continued repression of women’s rights in #Afghanistan and what the international community must do in response.
Watch her remarks at 9:30AM EST: https://t.co/DTE2NLl1Hy
