@sololobo254@Kevinish Freese should know he’s lurking lol. He came out of goal because he saw the Belgian player was likely getting to the long ball first. Unless he thought the Belgian was gonna keep running towards goal for no reason lol
@AndyFrancess@parallelcircle@GentlemanMashr He’s not right on the amount of points South Korea had but he’s right that the US needed SK to win. Portugal had a greater goal differential and only needed a draw since US no showed vs Poland. Game was over after 10 mins. It was like US vs Czechs in 2006
@EinSchwarzwelt They didn’t show up vs Poland when they needed a draw to ensure R16 qualification. They were out hustled to everything. Game was over after 10 mins. Very lucky Portugal went down to 10 men vs South Korea
@AndyFrancess@EinSchwarzwelt They were a shadow of Euro team. Figo missed 2 months in the lead up to the WC with an ankle injury and was being subbed in the semi and final of the CL. Rui Costa same story. Missed the final month of the season, got benched after US and didn’t even play final group game
@RMaq28@spadoni_joe So the US was relying on set pieces to score goals vs Belgium in 2014 as they were being outplayed and outclassed.
That story sounds familiar to 2026
@spadoni_joe Belgium destroyed the US this game. The gap in quality was far too large. Going to extra time was a flattering result and a moral victory.
@townbrad Further than ever I’d say. The US has improved but that doesn’t say much. Why? The elite are improving at a greater rate than the US so the bar keeps moving. Also as we’ve seen in the the WC, Euros and champions league other nations are outpacing US improvement
