We have sent a letter to @hackneycouncil declaring our intention to withhold 50% of service charges from 1 May due to neglect and a sheer lack of services. Enough is enough. Press enquires - DM us! #HousingCrisis
Congrats @ZoeGarbett on becoming Mayor! Today we have no hot water and heating. This happens all too often and it’s unacceptable. We are anticipating massive change on the housing front, and we will be holding you accountable #Hackney
SHAC Article: Social Housing in the UK: A Brutal War of Attrition
https://t.co/eKS5KFrsi8
As Hassan says: "Britain’s social housing accountability framework is, on paper, a layered structure of rights and remedies. In practice, it is a gauntlet specifically calibrated to wear tenants down ... The accountability gap isn’t a malfunction. It’s a design feature."
That's why we're working towards a national, democratic Housing Union for All Tenants and Residents to rebalance the landlord-tenant power relationship. Find out more at https://t.co/MHlzRRxnGB.
@hackneycouncil So we will continue to push for this investment, whatever government is in power. We should be living in more than decent homes, we should feel proud of where we live, and we shouldn’t have to feel grateful for it
A quick update on our campaign. @mayorofhackney and the Chief Executive of @hackneycouncil came to visit us at Pitcairn House two weeks ago. Residents felt it was a productive meeting but we want to see immediate progress on improving our living conditions…
We have invited the Acting Director of Tenancy & Home Ownership Services to come and see what can be improved in the immediate, and how residents can take more control of our building. We need massive investment in our building, there is no getting around this @hackneycouncil
📣 Only two weeks until we take action! 💥

Hmmm… this is what we need for #London! A mayor that actually listens and does something about the #HousingCrisis we are suffering. Our landlord @hackneycouncil must be held accountable. How about it @MayorofLondon ???
Bad landlords giving you a hard time? Dubious fees leaving your wallet light? Ceilings leaking and your landlord's phone is off the hook?
We'll be hosting Rental Ripoff hearings in our first 100 days in office, details to come at: https://t.co/uQ1AwBRoUI
See you there!
@hackneycouncil The other thing is, why did it take so long to send an engineer out? Why don’t they want to pay for it, making excuses like this isn’t an emergency when people are cooking and maybe even hosting on Christmas Day
So the heating and hot water finally came back on, after Christmas Day is almost over, at around 5.30pm. What a disgrace, what a joke @hackneycouncil is! We want an official apology for ruining our Christmas #Hackney#HousingCrisis@HousingOmbuds
As one resident pointed out, the building clearly isn’t meant to cope with so many people being at home at once with the heating on - but that is ridiculous - it has to be able to cater to times when everyone is home, and @hackneycouncil has to ensure that it can
@hackneycouncil@StreetLink_ Yes, we always worry about the people sleeping in our storage cupboards over winter. We also worry about the complete callousness and attention to this situation by @hackneycouncil
And when one at least one of the residents tried to call about the lack of hot water and heating this morning, the person over the phone said because the temperature outside has to be 2 degrees and it’s 3 degrees it’s not classed as an emergency! @hackneycouncil 🤯
Why are we not surprised that on one of the coldest days of the year @hackneycouncil leaves us with no heating and hot water - on #Christmas Day!!! This is negligent, utterly unacceptable and we are absolutely fed up #HousingCrisis
