Before pitching a VC, here are some rarely discussed tips to consider:
๐ฉ Warm intros are powerful, but donโt sleep on cold emails. The best ones are short, simple, and directโno more than 4-5 sentences. Sometimes, the subject line alone can get straight to the point.
๐ Understand venture math, especially for the specific firm youโre pitching. Not all firms operate the same way. An outcome for one firm might not make sense for another.
๐ Pitching is a numbers game, but you can still personalize each pitch with light research. Info on a firmโs thesis / portfolio are all online.
๐๐ฝ Master the art of the follow-up. If you noticed an investor's eyebrows lit up when you mentioned XYZ in the initial conversation, highlight it again in your follow-up email.
๐จ Be direct with a CTA during the initial meeting. Ask the investor what they need to get their partners excited. Help them craft the story internally.
Lately Iโve been using the โspecial directionsโ part of my @UberEats@PhilzCoffee order as an opportunity to show gratitude and i think you should too ๐ฅฐ
This is my vibe whenever I get cal invites with Zoom links:
"Here's my phone number instead. Please walk your dog or stretch your legs in a park. If not that, hop on the Peloton for a gentle cycle. Or just stretch. And give me a call when you're happy and comfortable."
Hey #startup founders! I canโt stress this enough: When pitching to #investors, remember to focus on the problem you're solving, show traction, and be confident in your vision. And don't forget to smile! ๐ #pitchingtips#entrepreneurship
I took this photo of @TommyWiseau in 2018 at the Golden Globes and last night, was treated to one of the most entertaining nights in a theater watching The Room at the @balboatheatresf for the first time. Tommy, you are such a giftโฆ
