Framber Valdez is hammering the CB early and often vs the Mariners, an above avg pitch vs RHHs in:
1. In-Zone Whiff%: 23%
2. Overall Whiff%: 46%
3. Chase%: 39%
3. GB%: 61%
In August + September, Jordan Hicks SL vs RHHs has the highest Putaway% in MLB at 47.5%
His heatmap from the first 4 months of the season shows arm side misses, more in-zone pitches up in the zone, and a lot of uncompetitive pitches down and away.
August and September?
1. Significant decrease in arm-side misses
2. Majority of in-zone pitches are low and away
3. OZ pitches are in competitive spots to force swings
Why does Julian Merryweather continue to throw his 4-Seam FB 56% of the time in 0-0, 1-0, and 1-1 counts. Is there a reason I'm not seeing?
A quick improvement = simple increase in SL usage.
Hitters Swing% ⬆️ late in games, throw your best stuff in high-leverage counts/innings
Impressed again by Ryne Nelson’s start, I can see him dominating LHHs.
Using top and bottom of strikezone w/ 4S, hammering in-zone CBs early in count. Up to 78-9 again and put Muncy away with 2-K.
Held his 4S velo throughout, only threw 81 pitches.
Ryne Nelson had one hell of a Major League debut, throwing 7 shutout innings with 7 K's and limiting the San Diego Padres to only 4 hits (and retiring 17 straight hitters).

Texas Rangers RHP Jonathan Hernandez CH is absolute 🔥🔥🔥
Averages 90mph, ++ arm-side run, slightly better than average sink.
If he can compete low and in to RHHs with two-strikes, it can be a true putaway pitch.

Nick Lodolo recorded 6 In-Zone Swinging Strikeouts with his 4-Seam FB last night vs the Milwaukee Brewers
Here are all the other pitchers who have 5+ IZ Swinging K's with a single pitch in a game this season

Jalen Beeks throws a hard CH (90mph) w/ + run but but less SNK. He has some success going low and in to LHHs, but clearly working below the zone with it. A lot of CHs that are way out of the "Chase Zone" ❌
Being on 3B side of rubber + HB is also getting a lot of Called Strikes
We don't see as many LHP vs LHH CHs just because there's fewer matchups, but here's a few LHPs who have the CH pitch profile to throw low-and-in OZ for a swing-and-miss:
1. Wandy Peralta
2. Jalen Beeks
3. Alex Wood
His Changeup is only 7 mph off his FB, but that's what gives the pitch so much success. The combination of velo (88mph) and a movement profile similar to that of a + Sinker but a little slower gives him the OZ Chase and Whiff ability
Still a small sample size here, but Wandy Peralta has a 39% Chase rate, with plenty of swing and miss OZ low and in
Green= Whiff
Orange= Contact
Gray= Take

It's hard to assess ctrl and pitchability in one outing, but he has some feel for 4 pitches that play at least slightly AA. I would currently project him to be in the #3-4 starter conversation for a playoff team, but I would need to see FB Velo + SL/CH ctrl in his next start
