The average American city is doing much less than Gary, IN to make itself a better place to live. Lessons to be learned here, not the least of which is that no city is “too far gone” to be improved provided the political will
I am once again delayed overnight on a route that could easily support 5-10 daily rts in a different world. We don’t need high speed rail to cover the US. We just need an alternative to short haul commercial air.
Returned home to DC this morning on a 450-mile flight that was 14 hours delayed due to maintenance. A lack of viable alternatives to commercial air for medium-distance travel is an insane (and relatively unique to NA) policy failure. Build the damn HSR.
I implore project schedules to stop using “Winter” given that winter takes place across 2 different years. To me, this could mean Jan 1 or 364 days later. Am I an idiot?
The @F1ArcadeUSA racing simulator bar and restaurant opening at 420 Penn St NE will have 350 seats inside, 35 outside, and a total occupancy of 450 people when it opens this fall. With new openings and thousands more seats on the way, Union Market is feeling a little crowded.
Amtrak wants to build a new station in downtown Atlanta (the exact spot is a secret) that would eventually link to new Amtrak lines to Chattanooga, Greenville, Memphis, and more. They've requested $30m from the federal government to acquire the land.

@joe5f6 Crazy that it opened in 1976 and it took until the late 00s for any infill development to take place. Hope that % only goes down (and quickly).
People don’t love to own cars or drive. People love getting from point A to point B without a big hassle. In the US, usually that means driving, but maybe it doesn’t have to be that way.

This issue seems to be only increasing (maybe along with nicer weather). Seems like most moped/vespa drivers are doing delivery of some sort, so added time pressure to perform. Feels like a collision course with some bad outcomes.
I’ve been seeing increasingly dangerous behavior from moped/scooter drivers in recent months. Running red lights, using bike lanes to cut traffic/contraflow, and riding on MBT and sidewalks. Not sure what the solution is, but current state feels less than ideal.
As a pedestrian, I should not have to keep an eye out for 150cc mopeds driving up behind me on the sidewalk. Only added danger when moped drivers start swerving around traffic at lights, swerving around peds in x walks, and driving in bike lanes.
