Want to start a business in NY?
Be prepared to burn $1,000+ on newspaper ads nobody reads because of a state-mandated scam from the '90s.
Albany lets a handful of publishers rob every new LLC. This is corruption, not compliance or good gov.
End the publication requirement.
@ShabazzStuart HSR up the Hudson Valley could probably be the most transformational project in NYC’s history after the Eire Canal.
On a dedicated HSR right of way and true high speed 200+ MPH travel would make Albany a borough.
Just imagine the implications.
@StreetsblogNYC@thequeenslink@TheQueensWay@NYCMayor Single biggest policy failure & betrayal of his so far.
This is some de Blasio water tunnel #3 short term thinking. The mistake of that potential cancellation was revealed to him and he back tracked.
Let’s hope @NYCMayor can see the damage of this choice on our future.
@floor_per_area Less than is better than none.
Honestly parking shouldnt be free - space is too valuable to be given away. Building paid parking, ideally under the streets, allows those who wish to own a car the ability todo so.
Allows for the cleanup of our underground utilities also.
@Siderskys@PhilSustainable You’re talking about 100’s of properties for something that can create billions of value and change the flow of NYC’s transit for the next hundred years.
If they got a problem they should sell - their properties will be worth more with it built anyway.
The QueensLink would reuse an abandoned 3.5-mile rail corridor in NYC, no expensive tunneling. At ~$3.5B, it’s one of the cheapest ways to expand the subway. Add upzoning near new stations and you unlock massive transit-oriented development. 160,000 new homes.
Why kill this?
Hey @NYCMayor now that we are talking about TOD and financing transit with LVT (that also spurs transit oriented development) I think it’s time for you to throw your full weight behind @thequeenslink .
Let’s not miss our chance build more connected and better NYC.
We're building 200,000 new affordable homes for New Yorkers. We're using every tool we have to fix our housing crisis.
Block by Block is the boldest housing plan our City has seen this century. It is what New Yorkers have been demanding for decades.

The fix for this is fully in @GovKathyHochul ‘s control.
A phone call over to the MTA saying you back them having their own in-house elevator maintenance corps would begin that process.
They need political cover to take on the maintenance contracts.
The MTA can install all the ADA compliant features it wants on the subway but little of it matters if the elevators and escalators are down for extended periods of time.
@LiamBlank I never thought about this before - but in the case where we get a new Penn and wider platforms what affect does that have on the platforms under Moynihan? Does the column issue extend there? Would major construction be required?
@TweetBenMax I’d make the additional argument that we need to extend the economic halo of NYC further north - if we could build infrastructure Albany should be a satellite city of NYC with HSR.
We gotta start thinking bigger.
As an American, the first time you visit Tokyo is amazing, then after about 2 days you get physically angry, because you realize cities don't actually need to be a total shit-holes, and it costs like 1/0th what you pay.
Informative @bstettin piece on what's wrong with Mamdani's department of community safety plan as proposed. Hope Mamdani team reads it, as the team has proven to be a little flexible so far. Brian should really be on the transition advisory team; surely with 700 they have room for one more? https://t.co/DEX5USmWTI
A retired, empty-nester couple feeling pressure to downsize because their property tax keeps rising as their home appreciates—is exactly how the system SHOULD work.
