Seeking a Composer for a New Musical based on the Life of Admiral Horatio Nelson

I am looking for an experienced or emerging composer to collaborate on the development of an original musical based on a recently published work: Horatio Nelson: A Hero’s Life in Rhyme.

This ambitious new work, replete with 5* reviews, tells the extraordinary story of Horatio Nelson’s rise from humble beginnings to become Britain’s most celebrated naval commander. Written in verse, the musical combines adventure, romance, humour, and drama while exploring the events and relationships that shaped one of history’s most iconic figures.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Horatio Nelson: A Hero’s Life in Rhyme follows the young Nelson from the markets of Norfolk to the frozen waters of the Arctic and ultimately to the great naval battles that secured his place in history. Along the way, audiences witness his encounters with press gangs, storms, warfare, personal sacrifice, and his controversial relationship with Lady Emma Hamilton, a romance that scandalised Georgian society.

The work, written with a musical or opera in mind, aims to bring fresh life to a well-known historical figure through compelling storytelling, memorable songs, and a balance of historical authenticity and theatrical entertainment.

IDEAL COLLABORATOR

I am seeking a composer who:

Has an interest in musical theatre and dramatic storytelling
Can create music that supports character, emotion, and narrative
Is excited by historical subject matter
Enjoys collaborative development
Is open to exploring a musical style that may blend traditional theatrical writing with contemporary accessibility

Experience in musical theatre, opera, choral writing, orchestral composition, folk traditions, or crossover genres would be welcomed.

COLLABORATION TERMS

I am open to discussing creative partnership arrangements, writing credits, intellectual property, royalty splits, and future production opportunities with the right collaborator. The goal is to build a strong creative partnership and develop the project towards workshop, development, and eventual production.

I visited Tait Britain today and can vouch that the Turner and Constable exhibition was terrific. Less so was the profile of visitors. By my reckoning, 85% of visitors were white British middle class and the remaining 15% were mainly overseas tourists. Very few were from British black and ethnic minority communities. Tait Britain must adopt better, more effective outreach programs. Otherwise, we risk losing a shared artistic heritage.

I know many may think I am naive, but I would appreciate someone explaining to me why so many users of X and other social media are gratuitous rude in their posts. Why do such people believe that gratuitous rudeness will persuade anyone to their cause?
