@trevors95 Great example Trevor. I personally switched majors 5 times! It makes sense that as more options are available, it is harder to make this big decisions. #mavDM
I have seen Schwartz’s topics in action in my own life. Just yesterday I ordered a peanut butter shake from Sonic. Immediately after the worker told me my total I saw a new Oreo shake and thought that I had made the wrong choice. #mavDM
Schwartz’s talk was extremely relevant. He had great points about choices and how us as humans are very poor choosers. I wonder how much more this paradox has grown in the 15 years since this talk was given? I think it has increased due to the influence of social media. #mavDM
McKnett’s talk was so intriguing to me. I never would have thought to value investment sustainability from factors such as environmental and social awareness. It is similar to judging what athlete will have the longest career based on his or her eating habits. #mavDM
I have experienced escalation of conflict many times in the workplace. For example, if two employees are not getting along, it is in human nature to continue to be mad at each other and increase that feeling rather than a resolution. Frustrating but true. #mavDM
@trevors95 Great real world example! However, I think that an extremely rare occurrence could happen and an injury would happen randomly. What would happen then? Good thought! #mavDM
I thoroughly enjoyed how Schulz ended her talk. It was cool how she advised people that their regrets are not as bad as they think. I see this all the time where people escalate things and think that the reality is much worse than it actually is. #mavDM
I found it interesting that Schulz compared a person that lives without regret to a sociopath... I understand the point she is trying to make but I feel like this is a bit too far. I don’t have many regrets and I definitely am not a sociopath #mavDM
@michelleann107 I understand your dilemma. I too have been in a job search process and it is so overwhelming due to the amount of options! Thanks for sharing #mavDM
The experiencing self vs remembering self comparison is very interesting. I believe that the correct way to make management decisions lies right in the middle of the two. A manager needs to be in the moment, but have the emotional intelligence to recall past happenings. #mavDM
Iyengar’s TED talk really intrigued me. We are awful at choosing things! 😂 we get so worked up over choices and we don’t even know it. I have experienced this first hand when shopping for soap. Most people need to smell every choice or they feel like they’re missing out. #mavDM
I have seen confirmation heuristics be involved in my life in many ways. The way these can develop into biases is extremely understandable and we need to be on our toes to avoid this. #mavDM
@ComeBackGert Well said! Biases must be understood to understand the negative and (sometimes) positive impacts that they can have. People must become more emotionally intelligent in order to realize the existing prejudices and biases they may have. #mavDM
Bloom had many good points in his TEDtalk. It is so crazy and sad to me at the amount of prejudice that our country has. Even though some prejudices are valid (valuing family over strangers), some of the studies he shared really surprised me. #mavDM
For example, if nobody stood up for what they believe in, society would have no backbone. But if they are totally closed off to outside ideas, nothing gets accomplished. #mavDM
I believe that people should be in the middle of soldier and scout mindset. People need to have morals but also be open to other ideas. This will push our society forward as a whole. #mavDM
I see the soldier mindset being so evident in politics. Many people look at political parties rather than the actual issue at hand and defend it with their entire effort. They dont care what the issue is, if the political party they support is for it, they will be as well. #mavDM
