Tactical🔢

Tactically, Tanganga is very good. He holds his position really well. His reading of the game is very good, and combined with his physical attributes, this allows him to be aggressive effectively at the right times. He does not constantly follow the runner when they pull away from him. He senses dangerous situations really well, and that is when he steps in and becomes aggressive, usually winning the ball.

He also tracks runners very well. His awareness of players making runs in behind and around the back of him is strong, meaning he rarely gets beaten in the channel between him and the RB/CB.

This awareness of runners is supported by his ability to cover space. He often supported Cooper when he was engaged in duels by covering the space behind, while Tanganga also showed awareness and an understanding of the ball flight to cover balls down the channel and cut out those dangers.

His communication is also reasonably strong. While there is the occasional mix-up, he can often be seen pointing to midfielders about where to go, which also helps him hold his position in situations such as when he is defending the box and needs to defend the near post, so he cannot rush out to a man making a run. Instead, he communicates with the midfielder to follow that run.

Clip 1

This is one of those occasions where Tanganga reads the danger really well. Often, he will hold his position, but this time, Tanaka picks the ball up in a dangerous area in space with three other Leeds players nearby. So, Tanganga steps in and is aggressive, winning the ball well.

Clip 2

Again, against Leeds, Gnonto makes a really intelligent run, turning his body to face the goal and getting in behind. However, Tanganga reads this exceptionally, cutting off the passing option and making Piroe play a poor pass.

Clip 3

A good example of how Tanganga can cover space behind the CB. He reads the ball and run of Isidor well, taking a touch out of the central area away from danger and using his strength to retain the ball. It is an excellent bit of covering the space behind.

Clip 4

This clip displays Tanganga covering a wider channel. He reacts well to the run into the box after the midfielder has not followed the man. He slows just before he gets to him to avoid being turned, which puts the attacker off, causing them to be indecisive and react after the ball goes out of play.
