Maybe an ancient insight into madness:
"Well-being I won
and wisdom too.
I grew and took joy in my growth:
From a word to a word
I was led to a word,
From a deed to another deed."
Found out about this today. To victims of the slave trade. A pitiful memorial I think. And like having a cattle car for a Holocaust memorial. CC: @samblackledge or anyone who'll listen.

Meanwhile we have Antony Gormley OBE's LOOK II 12ft iron man on the sea front. That would have been a 5 or 6 figure sum just to the artist. Where is the commitment here?
You have the symbology of the slave boat, and the council points out this is a local image from abolitionists. It would be like having a shower head or cattle truck for a Holocaust memorial. This seems to objectify victims.
It's made of Limestone, maybe the Plymouth variety. Stock material of our military installations. Maybe this is Malcolm X's "We didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us."
Firstly it's tiny. Appropriate to the location, but that location is off the path where people won't notice it. Compare it to the heroic iconography of Drake et al.
@serenderen I come from a time when childhood depression 'didn't exist'. I would say that any stability I have comes from trying to address all problems, not just mental health problems. Am always around if you need to talk about that.
@serenderen I find systemic failures reassuring that we don't yet live in a mechanised dystopia, but yes, it isn't you, it's the 'help' that's out there. I'm lucky that things got so bad that they threw everything at it.
