Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has called for "ethical leadership" and "clean governance" in Zimbabwe, urging fellow Zanu PF leaders to ask themselves what legacy are they leaving behind.
Chiwenga, who is Acting President, is locked in an internal power struggle over leadership succession in his party with President Emmerson Mnangagwa currently on his annual leave.
His political allies have accused Mnangagwa and his government of mismanagement, corruption and incompetence, as well as nepotism and tribalism.
Speaking at Heroes Acre in Harare during the burial of the late retired Brigadier-General Mathias Tizirai Ngarava earlier today, Chiwenga attacked the current system in which a few amass wealth at the expense of the poor majority.
"The liberation struggle was not waged so that a few can prosper, while many live in abject poverty... we need ethical leadership and clean governance... what legacy are we creating; one of sacrifice, patriotic service and national purpose, or plunder?"
