@coldhealing It is hard to scale up to get rich that way, because it is just flat out hard to scale a trades business.
But that difficulty in scaling makes it easier to be successful locally. Success isn't defined by being to compete against the "big dogs", but just having steady work.
@coldhealing In our society, a successful (but not too exciting) business is the way to secure upper middle class.
You don't have to be in the trades to do it, but I think it is the most *reliable* place to do it because it easier to start off with yourself as the only employee and grow.
I know this happens to young people too, of course, but it starts to happen more as you age.
This is the first time I've lost someone I was in an active TTRPG with. I've lost friends before, but it hits harder when I thought I'd see him and his wife at game on Sunday!
One of the worst things about being a middle aged gamer is that sometimes games aren't cancelled for reasons like "player is too hung over" or "player forgot they had an exam the next day", but instead things like "player died suddenly".
Real life sucks sometimes.
@hexcrawl I feel this is a side effect of some authors realizing most gaming supplements never actually see play, so they might be better able to sell them if they write them to be read instead of to be played.
I don't know which TTRPG GMs need to hear this, but:
Your scenes run too long, you should be cutting and moving onto the next thing sooner.
(it is me. I'm the TTRPG GM that needs to hear that)
@TheLastNeocon@maiamindel If driving to the grocery store had the same risks, and you only drive to the grocery store once a week, 90% of people would have had a life ruining complication from driving to the grocery store within a decade.
@roamingaway@dexterwebn@AMAZlNGNATURE I mean you can do the same searches on something that doesn't run on AI like DuckDuckGo if you prefer.
And it can be simultaneously true that dogs can get killed by coyotes if they go off after one, and also that it isn't an intentional strategy by coyotes to lure dogs.
@hecubian_devil I think part of it is that role models are, yes, people we want to be like - but part of that is we want to be like them *because we want to be treated by society the same way they are*.
So no wonder even if cis boys see women they admire, they don't often want to *be* them.
@roamingaway@dexterwebn@AMAZlNGNATURE I mean, this is like a number one "Coyote myth" that if you go on any wildlife conservation page that talks about coyotes you'll see on there. I can share links, but you can google them up just as fast yourself.
@roamingaway@dexterwebn@AMAZlNGNATURE You still shouldn't let your dog chase a coyote obviously because the result is the same.
It just isn't some cunning coyote tactic. It is just a curious playful coyote who gets scared of a dog and runs, and when the dog chases the coyote seeks safety with its pack.
@roamingaway@dexterwebn@AMAZlNGNATURE Dogs *chasing* coyotes and then the coyotes running to their pack for help definitely happens. 100%.
The thing that appears to be unsupported is the idea that it is any kind of intentional strategy on the coyotes part.
Coyotes are naturally playful. But will get scared and run.
@AlysssaHazel I'm a bigger guy but I work a pretty sedentary job and rarely work out, and I absolutely could carry that weight up a few flights of stairs. *I* would probably be pretty winded after doing it but, then, I'm out of shape.
Quiet depends more on the stairs than anything.
I know a TTRPG will not be for me if it feels like, most of the time, in any given scene in the game there's only one obviously supported mode for getting through the scene and on to the next thing. Especially when it is usually "combat".
@SandyofCthulhu Defeating a nation state is different from defeating an ideology.
America may have defeated the Confederacy but they're still fighting white supremacy a century and a half later.
@SchnittkeAlfred@lxeagle17 I think what count as "fundamentals" vary depending on what you're studying.
But as far as LLMs go, I think a good guide is to just never delegate anything to them you couldn't easily do yourself. Maybe use them to avoid tedium, but never to avoid learning.
