Our concept of fun has changed a lot since becoming Clean and Sober.
In Recovery, fun becomes taking walks, hanging out with friends, or playing board games. I'm comfortable knowing that simple, clean fun is obtainable.
After building up walls and wearing a mask for some long, it can be difficult to let people in. Does anyone know the real you? Very few can go down this path alone and we will need help on our journey.
Just For Today - I will let someone know the real me.
Sponsorship is a unique process. Some feel that a Sponsor is a friend while others believe a sponsor to be a guide through Recovery.
Just as with School or Work we need teachers and mentors to show us the way. Find someone who will guide you to where you want to go.

Step 1 doesn't only apply to drugs and alcohol.
It can apply to anything which is making your life unmanageable. Whether that is food, sex, tv, video games, etc. As addicts, we can make anything unmanageable. Always strive for balance.
Recovery is a difficult path to walk alone. Just as we needed companions in our drinking and using we need the same in recovery. Without the support of others, it is very difficult to stay clean on our own. Today I will strive to reach out to another recovering person.
Our first steps in recovery can be difficult. It can be hard to meet new people or the process might not make sense. Don't let these things scare you away. Patience is the spiritual principle that must be practiced in the beginning. If we stick and stay, things will get better.
In recovery, we no longer have the benefit of manufactured feelings. When we are #sad or anxious, we have to sit with that feeling. It can be uncomfortable learning to deal with natural #feelings but through step work and working on #mental health we can learn a new way of life.

Anyone can become an addict.
It doesn't matter where you came from, how much money you have, where you went to school, etc. No one gets a hall pass from addiction.
Embrace the diversity of addiction and know that you are not alone.

When we talk of Service in Recovery it doesn't only apply to those suffering from Addiction.
I believe service is also giving back to our families and communities.
A difficult part of recovery for me is comparing in. From class to education to the drugs we used it can be difficult to see past our differences. Don't let external factors deter you from recovery, addiction is about feelings, not degrees, status, or how/what we used.
Trust can be difficult for us in early Recovery.
We certainly didn't give or receive much in active. Relationships are built on trust and are essential to recovery. Perhaps start with a sponsor and move on from there, it is better to give people a chance than not to at all.

A step people start working almost immediately in recovery is Step 12.
It might seem strange to work a Step that comes at the end but every time we pick up someone for a meeting or offer to help a newcomer; we are working the 12th Step.
People will tell you these "rules" when you get in recovery.
No relationships for a year, etc, etc, etc. These are not truths, they are only suggestions. Our processes are different and what might work for John might not work for Paul. Follow the process that works for you.

We don't get the choice of whether or not we are affected by addiction. We do get the choice to participate in recovery. We will always be alcoholics and addicts but we do get to choose whether we want to remain in active or walk the path of recovery
