Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), the lone central university of Arunachal Pradesh, has once again cemented its academic standing by securing the 13th position among all central universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2025.
This is the second consecutive year the university has achieved this rank, having climbed from 16th position in 2023.
This consistency marks a significant achievement not just for RGU but for the entire Northeast, where the university continues to lead. In the IIRF 2025 rankings, Tezpur University was placed 24th, Mizoram University 25th and North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong at 29th.
Established in 1984 as Arunachal University and rechristened in 2005, RGU is located at Rono Hills, Doimukh, and remains the oldest and most prominent institution of higher education in the state.
The university campus sprawls across 302 acres and caters to thousands of students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.
University officials have described the recognition as a “proud moment” for the institution and a reflection of the collective efforts of its academic and administrative communities.
“This recognition reflects our sustained commitment to academic excellence, research, and inclusive education,” the university said is a social media post.
The IIRF rankings assess more than 2,500 institutions across India, including over 500 universities, based on parameters like research output, teaching-learning resources, industry interface, placement performance, inclusivity and external perception.
RGU’s performance has remained robust across multiple parameters, particularly in research innovation and teaching standards. The full IIRF 2025 report is expected to reveal detailed sub-category scores and comparative data that further highlight RGU’s academic strengths.
