Me, as your real estate agent:
“This building has broken cameras, 300+ complaints, 80+ open code violations, & a great chance of getting robbed on your block. Wanna sign?”
You: “Are you kidding?”
NYC: “Perfect, let’s place foster youth there.”

“Within weeks of becoming a parent, I was thinking about location and opportunity…But when foster youth aged out, we sent them into neighborhoods where they felt unsafe, with no support.” — @jeremycv
Housing has to be more than a building.

“These systems were never really built with foster youth in mind…placements are in the highest-crime neighborhoods. It feels like an afterthought.”
@CMRitaJoseph said it best — "it feels like 'Oh, just push them into that little gap right there.'"

.@NYCCouncil’s new laws to expand support for youth in foster care and juvenile justice systems are now in effect.
Inspired by my “Fair Futures“ daughter Cheyanne, these laws strengthen data collection on the experiences of young people, ensuring programs meet their needs.

When you don’t have much, what you do have is precious; foster kids shouldn’t be forced the cary their belongings in trash bags between placements. S.3781 would provide them actual luggage—which is the literal least we owe our foster youth.
Decisions about youth should not be made without youth at the table. Their voices must be heard in the conversation about NYC’s next mayor. That’s why we’re supporting the virtual Youth in Focus Mayoral Forum on 4/17 from 6-8pm. RSVP now: https://t.co/1pNCFxFe9x #NYCYouthForum
