NHS SENT A DOCTOR A £180,000 BILL FOR REPORTING A PATIENT DEATH

A heart patient died at an NHS hospital. A doctor said it was avoidable. Nobody told the coroner.

That doctor was Dr Usha Prasad, the only female consultant cardiologist at Epsom and St Helier University NHS Trust.

She raised the alarm. She named it. She refused to stay quiet.

So the trust built a case against her. Forty-three clinical complaints, assembled and handed to the GMC to finish her off.

An independent cardiologist reviewed every single one. He found nothing wrong.

The GMC cleared her and revalidated her licence to practise.

The trust had thrown everything at her and come back empty-handed.

And then... they sent her a bill. Not just any bill. A £180,000 costs demand, which would be the largest ever imposed on a whistleblower at a UK employment tribunal.

Costs are awarded against claimants in fewer than 1 in 2,000 tribunal cases.

Dr Prasad apparently made the cut.

The former CEO reportedly offered her a deal: walk away, drop the whistleblowing claim, and he would make the disciplinary process disappear.

She said no.

What followed was years of hearings, cancelled proceedings, and a consultant so mentally broken by the process that she sometimes could not attend her own case.

Her colleagues described her as skilled, patient-centred, and well-liked. Nobody questioned her ability until the moment she questioned the trust.

The UK now hosts more than 500 active data centres (the third largest in the world). They have been rammed through despite huge local community concerns about the impact on their local landscapes and energy and water consumption.

These enormous data centres are giant industrial facilities consuming vast quantities of electricity, water and land while placing increasing pressure on the UK’s energy infrastructure.

▪️Water consumption by data centres is expected to reach 9.3 trillion litres, while CO2 emissions will rise to 399 million tons.

▪️Annual power consumption from data centres is projected to double to 945 TWh by 2030, around ‌the ⁠same as the whole of Japan’s energy consumption, with AI accounting for 40% of the total.

▪️The rise of AI is accelerating this trend. The UK Government's Compute Roadmap notes that AI data centres can devote up to 40% of their energy consumption to cooling systems.

▪️It is estimated that data-centre power and water consumption could double by 2030 due to AI growth.

▪️Emerging research suggests large AI facilities can create localised warming effects around their sites, sometimes described as a “data heat island” effect.

The most constitutionally significant aspect of the Murrell scandal may not ultimately be the scandal itself. It may be what the scandal has exposed.

For years, concerns surrounding:

• prosecutorial independence;
• institutional self-investigation;
• separation of powers;
• executive proximity to justice functions;
• and accountability architecture

were often dismissed as exaggerated, fringe or conspiratorial. Now however, those same concerns are appearing openly within mainstream public discourse and national press reporting.

Justice systems do not survive just because statutes exist. They survive because the public believe:

• investigations are independent;
• prosecutions are impartial;
• oversight is genuine;
• and politically sensitive matters are handled without institutional protectionism.

Once substantial numbers of citizens begin doubting those assumptions, the constitutional danger ceases to be theoretical.

The deepest institutional crises are rarely triggered by a single scandal. They emerge when the public begins suspecting that the structures designed to provide accountability may themselves no longer command confidence and that is the territory which Britain increasingly appears to be entering upon.

Like, no, these are guys that were created by military intelligence and they privatized these programs and we have willingly given them our data and we continue to do so.

"And so even if you have Palantir having access to privileged information, think about something in that same family of company, like Clearview AI, for example, which is also Peter Thiel–connected, that has amassed this huge database used for facial recognition by law enforcement and militaries. So, you know, to arrest and also to murder people.

"And they just scraped most of that from stuff, pictures people freely and willingly posted. We voluntarily gave a lot of our data away, and they've been able to scrape a lot more of it than you, than you probably think."
