Disgusted former political junkie. Reader, Writer, English Instructor @ a great community college, and -- best of all -- I'm Mom, daughter, sister, and Grammy.
When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain.
A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.”
That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love.
I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.
I’m a chemist. I need to say this - because it’s getting dangerous out there. The biggest health myth in the world isn’t about vaccines.
Or GMOs. Or fluoride.
It’s the root of all of them.
It’s called chemophobia - and it’s killing science.
Fear of “chemicals” now drives vaccine rejection, GMO bans, food hysteria, and entire political movements.
From tampons to tap water, people have been taught to fear chemistry - the very thing that keeps us alive.
Chemophobia tells us:
“Natural is good.”
“Synthetic is bad.”
That’s a lie.
Botulinum toxin is 100% natural and one of the deadliest molecules known. Aspirin is synthetic and life-saving.
We’ve gone from banning harmful substances for good reason…to banning safe, well-tested molecules for emotional reasons.
You’ve seen the slogans: “If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.” “Paraben-free.” “Clean beauty.”
They sound empowering. But they’re not science - they’re marketing. And they’re making the world dumber, poorer, and sicker.
Your body doesn’t care if a molecule comes from a plant or a lab. Vitamin C is vitamin C.
Formaldehyde is formaldehyde and your body makes more of it every day than any vaccine ever could.
Dose matters. Source doesn’t.
This fear isn’t harmless.
It shapes public policy.
It blocks innovation.
It raises food prices.
It slows down cancer treatments.
Chemophobia is now mainstream and it’s costing lives. Scientists aren’t losing because we’re wrong.
We’re losing because fear spreads faster than facts. Because influencers sell fear for clicks.
Because lawyers monetize doubt. And because scientists are too tired to fight back.
So here’s my message, as a chemist and as a citizen: Learn how toxicology works.
Call out chemical fear-mongering. Support policies based on evidence, not emotion.
Chemistry isn’t the enemy. It’s the reason you have clean water, safe food, and modern medicine.
If we let fear win, we lose all of it.
BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Donald Trump's former economic advisor just admitted on Fox News that inflation is being driven nearly exclusively by bad decisions that Donald Trump has made. Wow.
Let's keep the focus on working families, and the backwards priorities of a Republican trifecta that is doing anything but helping them.
Life is harder and more expensive under Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, yet they refuse to do the things that would help families make ends meet.
That is a choice.
#ResistTrump
So Mike Johnson and many republicans are against banning Members of Congress from trading stocks because inflation makes their salary less valuable.
Here’s an idea: if $174k a year isn’t enough for you, then resign and let someone who is willing to work the job do it.
There are plenty of young people who would be willing to give up stock trading for that salary. And they would actually get stuff done.
And if $174k isn’t enough for people to take care of their family, then how the hell is minimum wage?
They told you the real threat was the guy sweating on your roof in July, or the woman wiping your grandma’s chin for 10 bucks an hour. And you bought it.
You waved the flag chanted “USA!” , while they took your healthcare, kid’s lunch destroyed your farms to give billions to themselves.
You got conned.
They dangled fear like a shiny object, “the border, the migrants, the brown folks taking jobs you never wanted”, while behind your back, they picked your pocket and left your kid holding the bill for generations to come.
You lose your Medicaid. Your VA clinics and hospitals shut down. Your grandma gets pushed to the sidewalk with an oxygen tank. But hey, no migrants working jobs you wouldn't do, huh? What a deal.
It's a conman's trick, you know, and you're the mark.
You traded your & and your kid's future for a wall that didn’t get built and a promise that only delivered to billionaires while bankrupting our nation.
This ain’t “America First.” It never was. It’s fear first, cruelty second, and you dead last. Now they're taking your rights. This November election is it. Let's hope you wake up before it's too late.
The interesting thing about the current dynamic is that Trump said he would extend the ceasefire indefinitely, and Iran’s response was basically “fuck you, we’re winning”
They also threatened retaliation for any more vessels seized… which we just did.
OPINION: Imagine it was someone other than President Donald Trump. Suppose a different leader were posting deranged rants in the small hours, insulting the spiritual leader of 1.3 billion Catholics, threatening entire civilizations with annihilation, and comparing himself to God. What would be the reaction?

LOL 🤦♂️. Cruz, you hilariously stupid & gullible MAGAs can’t help but embarrass yourselves.
It’s common practice to post stories with multiple titles, tags, etc. to ensure you maximize SEO, distribution, etc.
Nothing to see here folks. Just another member of dumbest political cult in American history embarrassing themselves in public again.
A proud Minnesotan through and through.
10 years after his passing, I’m joining folks around the world in honoring Prince by listening to Purple Rain today.
Hillary Clinton on Trump's increasing unhinged posts: "I read those like I think I hope the majority of Americans -- both shaking my head, and really just feeling sick at heart that we have a president who is such a disgrace."
BREAKING: Republicans are in a state of panic after learning Democrat Mary Peltola raised a record setting $8.9 million in her Alaska Senate race. She more than quadrupled the fundraising of her Republican opponent. Let's go!
“He didn’t literally mean he would wipe out an entire civilization”
Then he shouldn’t have fucking said it.
He’s the President of the United States. He has sole launch authority over the world’s most sophisticated nuclear arsenal, and words mean things.
Trump’s speech last night was designed to calm people down.
Instead, he recycled a bunch of his truth social greatest hits and sent oil higher and stocks lower.
Bruce Springsteen is currently playing to a #NoKings crowd of over 200,000 people in Saint Paul Minnesota right now!
Trump is using government to hurt people who disagree. That is what kings do to scare others. We will not be scared. We will not be silent.
@BigFish3000 Nice try. I took the Amtrak home.
We tried to pay TSA almost a dozen times and Republicans said no every time. Then the GOP Speaker closed session last night and sent everyone home.
Please Google what party is in charge of Congress right now. The answer may surprise you!
