Jaguar have done exactly what they said they were going to do.
And people are already missing the point.
Jaguar isnāt trying to build a car for the mass market.
It isnāt trying to compete for buyers looking at a Ā£40,000 family SUV.
Itās deliberately moving Jaguar into a completely different part of the market.
The new Type 01 is expected to sit in the Ā£120,000āĀ£300,000 luxury space, with Jaguar openly talking about scarcity and exclusivity.
In other words, theyāre targeting the very wealthiest buyers, effectively the top 1%, not the average motorist.
But obviously it will draw scrutiny from the Ford and Vauxhall drivers.
The styling is incredibly bold.
Some people absolutely love it.
Others absolutely hate it.
And Jaguar appears perfectly happy with that.
In fact, Jaguar says its own customer research produced unusually large numbers of both 1/10 and 2/10 scores AND 9/10 and 10/10 scores.
Thatās deliberate.
They donāt want to build something safe that everybody thinks is āquite niceā.
They want something distinctive enough that a relatively small number of wealthy buyers absolutely WANT one.
And the specifications certainly arenāt ordinaryā¦
1,030hp, 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds, 450-mile WLTP range, 118kWh usable battery, up to 350kW charging, around 200 miles added in 13 minutes, four individual seats and 23-inch wheels.
Jaguar also expects most Type 01 customers to be completely new to the brand, with North America expected to be its biggest market.
Thatās probably the most important context when judging this car.
You might hate it.
You might love it.
I genuinely donāt think Jaguar particularly cares if 99% of us wouldnāt buy one.
Because theyāre not trying to sell it to 99% of us.
@SawyerMerritt Terrific looking car. It'll undoubtedly do well in China.
Would be interested in seeing how it will fair in the used car market in 5 or so years... I quite fancy owning one if it's affordable.
Wokey BS advertising campaign aside, I think the new Jaaaag 01 is a genuinely great looking car. One to look out for in the used car market in a few years, after the initial depreciation hammer.

@_adubl_@patinaresearch I genuinely love driving my EV, and I love driving my Manual ICE. It's possible to enjoy both. Mind-blowing revelation, I know!
As supply for the Model Y Performance in Australia shifts from Giga Berlin to Giga Shangai, we've lost the White interior and Marine Blue paint in exchange for Zen Grey interior and Glacier Blue exterior.
Price point has also dropped significantly. š
Old German models in Marine blue and White seats may become somewhat of a collectible in future!
The Model 3 Standard is now available to order in Australia!
I had a good poke around in one when I was back in the UK. IMO, this is the best value Tesla currently available. Even more so than the Model Y Standard, as it still retains the glass roof, waterproof frunk, and centre console design from the Premium model.
Thank you @TeslaAUNZ
