Diary of a Sad Woman - why I hate COVID. Sun, Oct 15th - my brother picks up my mom who has just spent 2 weeks in Florida staying with my aunt post uncle’s death. Mom/dad had both attended my uncle’s funeral 2 weeks earlier. Mom comes back feeling sick.
This graphic left a real impression on me. Look left: 1 person can infect 406 people within 60 days. Look right: that number drops to 2.5 people - not because of a vaccine, but with masks and physical distance. Now you can see the difference a single individual can make.
Why has the United States handled this pandemic so badly? The Editors note that although we came into this crisis with enormous advantages, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent.
The White House's unwillingness to fight the virus, even when it has hit its own staff and supporters, is insanity. Actual insanity. The GOP opposition to a national test, trace, and mask strategy is catastrophic. There is nothing partisan about going on offense against the virus
Hospital surge capacity requires space (rooms, ICUs), stuff (ventilators, PPE, tests, Remdesivir) and staff (physicians, APPs & nurses). You can build SPACE, you can buy STUFF but STAFF (in particular nurses) is the real issue. There is simply not enough staff.
Atlanta to mandate face masks to contain coronavirus. Well done by @KeishaBottoms for requiring the use of face masks in the city. This is a necessary step to try to slow down #COVID19 transmission at a time when cases are rapidly increasing in ATL https://t.co/stbnpXFELp
NEW: The WHO made a surprising announcement that asymptomatic people w COVID rarely spread it.
I’ve talked to 4 reputable scientists, the White House, and the WHO.
I believe this was an irresponsible statement even though it was based on legitimate observations. Thread here.1/
On June 5 at 1 pm, Emory physicians and health care workers at various campuses kneeled for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. The Emory community stands for justice in all aspects of our mission, and when confronted with hatred and prejudice, we must speak out. #WhiteCoatsforBlackLives

Wait what was the question again?
There once was a kid with a cold.
Take antibiotics! Is what he’d been told.
But those aren’t the cure
For a virus I’m sure
And that is a message worth gold.
