Fisheries Oceanography and Population Dynamics Lab led by @j_wilson_white @osu-fw. A @PiscoScience lab in the Coastal OR Marine Experiment Station, @HatfieldMSC
Hello #Twitterverse! We are the White Lab at @osu_fw studying fisheries oceanography and population dynamics. Our lab is based at @HatfieldMSC and current projects are focused on the distribution, dynamics, or effects of ocean conditions on marine fisheries (a thread). (1/11)
SAVE THE DATE: Join the #SSFHub for Session Two of Fisher Voices on COVID. This session will focus on how #fishers and their intermediaries (or other #valuechain actors) have innovated to overcome the #COVID crisis. Learn more here: https://t.co/Q1ARH2a0tV

It's a great paper, with lots of action items and important background and theory. We've got a whole folder full of fantastic readings, for any other labs who'd like recommendations to start periodic DEI lab discussions based on peer-reviewed journal articles.
We discussed Cronin et al. 2021 in lab meeting yesterday, and our fearless PI @j_wilson_white is already working hard to decolonialize lecture materials, and we'll be brushing up the land acknowledgements on our lab website.

In 2012 #Oregon created 5 #MarineReserves and 9 #MarineProtectedAreas, covering ~9% of state waters. A marine reserve is an “underwater wilderness area” w/in which the removal of all marine life + ocean development are prohibited. MPAs are similar, but allow for extractive uses.
Got to walk around the entire population of a species of fish endemic ONLY to this one lake in SE Oregon. This endemic chub has evolved to survive the super high arsenic levels in this geothermal lake. Enjoying this week’s foray into terrestrial field biology!!
