Dom care providers are handing back contracts as they cannot meet demand either due to the costs or lack of staff.

Still lots of care providers who are family owned & run despite many going bust every year compared to the giant corporations that have 60beds or more

@Lord_Talbot64 Councils put out people for tender to care home providers on the framework. They pay £1000 approx per week on standard rate, more if dementia or complex needs. So roughly £6 per hour. Home care is about £12-14 per hour but 15minute visits twice daily or more are common

Andy Burnham thinks profit is the problem in social care. It isn’t. Reality is.

His plan would:
• hit taxpayers with huge new costs
• punish thousands of excellent independent and family-run care providers
• ignore half of adult social care, which supports working-age adults

Worst of all, it ignores the biggest flaw in the system. Councils have underpaid for care for years, with self-funding families quietly making up the shortfall.

Drive out the providers who keep that system afloat and you don’t create a National Care Service.

You create a National Care Crisis.
