Last week we welcomed @NewhamLondon's new Mayor Forhad Hussain (@4Hussain) to break ground at Pier Road. Delivered by Populo Living and constructed by Hill Group, this new development in North Woolwich will create 350 new homes for Newham, including 127 genuinely affordable homes, as well as new green areas and maker spaces right next to the Thames.

We were lucky enough to visit @V_and_A East just ahead of its opening this past weekend.

The Music is Black: A British Story was something really special - tracing the impact of Black British music across centuries, moving and joyful in equal measure, with more than a few people rediscovering old favourites 🎵

We also tried our hand at weaving in the Why We Make galleries, and shared thoughts on how the @NewhamLondon community can truly be part of everything this place becomes.

Always wonderful to meet new neighbours 🙌

At Populo we like to think of new solutions to housing issues, so it’s great that our Great Green Loft pilot has been mentioned in @CentreforCities blog about New York Mayor Mamdani’s intelligent approach to creating more and better homes.

With #GreatGreenLofts we’re going beyond permitted development on the standard Victorian terrace home to create valuable and more usable space (2 x double beds + shower room) at full height. Plus increased insulation improves whole house performance, helping with retrofitting and overcrowding.

What’s not to like when the UK has over 6 million of these ‘loved-but-leaky’ homes?

Yesterday evening we welcomed a group of Geography teachers to the Carpenters Estate in Stratford for a CPD session 🏗️

An open exchange about co-design, community, and what it means to teach estate regeneration responsibly, with students in spaces that are very much home to real people.

Kate Stockings led a brilliant discussion, and the teachers and fieldwork professionals in the room brought so much to it. We're now working on resources to better support Geography teachers covering the Carpenters Estate at KS4 & KS5. If that's you, what would you like to see? We'd love to hear from you. 🙌
